TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Extreme heat conditions are continuing across Kansas as drought conditions continue to worsen with little relief in sight. The National Weather Service is issuing excessive heat advisories and heat warnings throughout the state with temperatures forecast Tuesday to be above the 100-degree mark. The July 17 U.S. Drought Monitor had 64 percent of Kansas experiencing extreme drought. Gov. Sam Brownback is resuming his tour of drought-stricken areas of northwest Kansas to see the damage wrought by the drought and heat. Brownback visited central and southeastern Kansas last week. K-State football took the podium at Monday’s Big 12 media days, and among the news that was made is that Tyler Lockett will be ready for the season.  The sophomore wide receiver/kick returner suffered a lacerated kidney against Oklahoma State last season, and missed the final four games.  Wildcat fans became considered the injury might be more serious than thought because Lockett missed the annual Purple/White spring game in April.  But, K-State coach Bill Snyder told the media in Dallas that Lockett recovered from the kidney injury after last season, and participated in the first 14 practices of the spring. …

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP)   A suspended Oklahoma State basketball player broke down in tears as he was convicted on charges that accused him of sexually assaulting two women, then turned to jurors and yelled “I didn’t do it.”  Darrell Williams was convicted Monday night of two counts of rape by instrumentation and one count of sexual battery.  Jurors acquitted him on two other counts of rape by instrumentation.  Prosecutors accused the 22-year-old of groping the women and reaching inside their pants without their consent at a party in December 2010.  The women testified that they identified Williams after police showed…

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP)   Randy Shannon and TCU have agreed on a contract for the former Miami coach to become the Horned Frogs’ linebackers coach.  Shannon and TCU are finalizing a contract.  Shannon was fired by Miami at the end of the 2010 regular season.  He went 28-22 in four seasons with the Hurricanes, and before his stint as head coach was one of the nation’s top defensive coordinators.  He also was a linebacker for the Hurricanes and later for the Dallas Cowboys.  TCU is about to enter its first season in the Big 12 Conference.

(AP)   Pinch-hitter Kendrys Morales delivered a rare three-run single in the eighth inning, helping the Los Angeles Angels beat the Kansas City Royals 6-3 on Monday night.  Alberto Callaspo, who spent two-plus seasons with the Royals, started the tiebreaking rally with a two-out single against reliever Greg Holland (4-3). Riley County voters have a way to get to voting booths early for the primaries.  Early voting began with mail in votes on July 18th, and now continues with the ballots opening at the Riley County office building on the second floor. Riley County Clerk Rich Vargo say early voting allows voters to circumvent the crowds during regular polling, and tailor their time during the slower summer months. On Monday evening the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce held its candidate forum for county and state races at the Manhattan Arts Center.  The first portion of the event featured a meet and greet with all the candidates, and then the  contended seats participated in formal forums. The forums featured candidates from the 2 and 3rd districts of the Riley county commission, the 51st, 64th, 66th, and 67th districts, and Kansas Senate District 22.
