Two individuals, aged 30 and 43, were charged Friday with criminal trespass following separate incidents reported at their respective homes. According to RCPD, both men were considered victims and suspects. The younger man reportedly visited the older man’s home and intentionally urinated on the other’s internet router. In response, police say the older man threatened the younger man with a brick. Both were cited for their involvement. No additional details were disclosed by police.

A Manhattan man was arrested Saturday after a domsetic incident. RCPD says a 31-year-old woman reported she was attacked by the suspect, 30-year-old Tony Hoover, shortly before 5 p.m. Officers arrested Hoover on two Riley County warrants for failure to appear, stemming from an original charge of burglary and probation violation stemming from original charges of aggravated burglary and possession of stolen property. Hoover also had two Manhattan Municipal Court warrants for driving while suspended and a motion to revoke parole for theft. He remains jailed on a $14,750 bond.
A Manhattan business was burglarized Friday after police reported more than $13,000 worth of items were stolen. Energy Center Manhattan Pool was listed as the victim. RCPD says numerous items were stolen, including pumps, filters, valves, a ladder deck and a spa vacuum. The business also reported five vehicles had their catalytic converters removed, causing an estimated $6,000 in damage. It’s unknown if the two crimes are related. Officers filed a report for burglary and theft in the 500 block of Pillsbury Dr. in Manhattan on May 19, 2023, around 11:15 a.m. Energy Center Manhattan Pool was listed as the victim when it was reported multiple miscellaneous pool items including pumps, filters, valves, a ladder deck, a spa vacuum, and more were stolen totaling approximately $13,700. It was also reported the catalytic converters from five vehicles on the property were cut off and stolen along with one diesel particulate filter for an approximate total loss of $6,000. Kansas State University President Richard Linton has announced plans to increase wages for staff in the upcoming academic year. In a letter penned to the university community Monday, Linton noted plans to invest more than $12 million in compensation increases and salary adjustments. Linton says the vast majority of this funding will support faculty and staff salaries, including $3.5 million for a 1.25% across-the-board increase for all benefits-eligible faculty, unclassified and university support staff hired on or before Dec. 1, 2022. Donation barrels will be set up at both Dillons locations in Manhattan, starting this weekend, in an effort to help Harvesters and the Flint Hills Breadbasket. The barrels will be located near the exit doors and customers are invited to purchase non-perishable foods to serve as a donation. To inspire customer donations, Dillons is donating $5,000 to the Flint Hills Breadbasket to mark the partnership. Riley County Extension Director Gary Fike briefed county commissioners Thursday about the first meeting of the Riley County Fairgrounds Task Force. Fike, who chairs the task force, says they met last week, coming to consensus that a move to the area north of Kimball Avenue, near the Stanley Stout Center, isn’t the best option.
