An arrest followed a more than six hour stand-off north of Manhattan Sunday. Riley County Police say they received a domestic disturbance call at approximately 1:42pm on Sunday at 6030 Tuttle Terrace mobile home park.  The preliminary call indicated a firearm might be involved in the incident.  Preliminary police reports indicate an injured female was able to make the phone call to police, saying the suspect was still inside the  residence they shared at Lot 23. Update: New information has been released regarding an accident that occurred Saturday evening. More details were released today (Monday) on a two vehicle accident that was first reported by KMAN Saturday night. Riley County Police told reporters that around 6:25 P.m. Saturday, a 2011 Toyota Prius driven by  Ginger Reeves (75)of Ogden, failed to yield at a left turn and cut in front of a 2001 Ford F250 driven by Michael Schurte of Wamego, which was traveling south on Seth Child Road. Schurte then collided with Reeves. Schurte was unharmed, but Reeves and her three passengers were all injured and required…

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) One teenager is dead and two others are in custody following an attempted holdup at a Wichita convenience store. KWCH-TV reports a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed by a clerk shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday at KC Gas Groceries on North Broadway. Police say two or three teens entered the store and tried to rob the clerk at gunpoint. The clerk fired several times, hitting the 16-year-old. The boy died at a hospital. His name had not been released Friday. Two 19-year-olds fled but were later arrested. The same store had also been robbed last weekend.…

BROUSSARD, La. (AP) The long fellow has a tall lady friend. After two years of saving for a mate for Gabriel the giraffe, the Zoo of Acadiana has brought him Evangeline. They’re named for the couple separated by the Acadian expulsion in the epic poem “Evangeline” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. But zoo officials foresee a happy ending to this story. Zoo spokeswoman Lea Loftin tells The Daily Iberian that the zoo bought 9-year-old Evangeline from the Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Wichita, Kan. for nearly $70,000. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach says fewer than expected registered voters cast provisional ballots in the Nov. 6 general election in response to the new state photo identification law. The law requires voters to show a valid photo identification in order to receive a ballot and cast their vote. This was the first general election to require such proof of identity since the law was enacted in 2011. Kobach says only 717 provisional ballots were cast because of photo ID issues out of the more than 1.11 million votes cast. That equates to about 0.6 percent…

HAYDEN, Kan. (AP) A Topeka high school has started a group that encourages its students to serve as pallbearers at funerals where they’re needed. The St. Joseph of Arimathea Society was started in fall 2011 at Hayden High School after Deacon Dan Ondracek, of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, read an article about a similar group at an all-boys high school in Cleveland.
