The 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, is set to conduct a change of command ceremony Friday morning at 10 at the Cavalry Parade Field on Fort Riley. The “Devil” Brigade will bid farewell to its current commander, Col. Michael Pappal, who led the unit during its 2010-2011 deployment to Baghdad in support of Operation New Dawn. While in Iraq, the brigade performed a mission with the Iraqi Security Forces, and was among the last American units in the Iraqi capital. The brigade will welcome Col. A lightning strike early Tuesday morning caused minimal damage to a two story house on Zeandale road. Riley County Fire Chief Pat Collins tells KMAN lightning apparently struck a gutter, blowing out a downpipe on the side of the house. While there was no actual fire, damage is estimated at 800 to one-thousand dollars. Power was knocked out to the home. Collins says the call came in at about 5:30 a.m. The house was located in the 35-hundred block of Zeandale Road.

Diaz will sit out the 2013-14 season due to NCAA transfer rules before being eligible to play for the Panthers. FIU is coming off an 18-14 season, and will be led by Anthony Evans after Richard Pitino departed for Minnesota. Diaz announced he was leaving K-State in April after two seasons with the Wildcats. Some portions of the newly passed concealed carry bill are still a bit fuzzy according to Riley County Counselor, Clancy Holeman. During Monday’s county commission meeting, Holeman presented the short term concealed carry exemption letter. Holeman recommended sending the exemption letter in before July 1st, if they choose to exempt some or all of the county buildings, as the statute is unclear of some requirements. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A Manhattan doctor charged with illegally dispensing prescription drugs is scheduled to go to trial in May of next year. U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson set the trial date during a brief hearing Monday after federal prosecutors and attorneys for 53-year-old Michael Schuster agreed on the timing. A federal grand jury indicted Schuster last month on four counts alleging he operated a so-called “pill mill” at his Manhattan clinic. He continues to be held without bond. Schuster has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors allege that from April 2007 until at least August 2012, Schuster had staff members who weren’t…
