Riley County Police Detectives and officers have arrested two individuals allegedly involved in the distribution of methamphetamine.  A news release early Wednesday morning indicates more than 66 grams of methamphetamine  with an approximate street value of $6,600, as well as marijuana, paraphernalia, a handgun, and a vehicle were seized. Taken into custody were  David Gibson, 31,  of  Topeka on several charges including  possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Gibson’s bond was set at $25,500. Kimberly Kilgore, 25, was arrested on similar charges  and her bond has been set at $22,500.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)   Police say Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher spent some of his final hours sleeping in his car outside the home of another woman whom he described as his “girlfriend.” Police spokesman Darin Snapp said Tuesday that the woman’s apartment complex was about 10 miles from the home where Belcher shot and killed the mother of his 3-month-old daughter, 22-year-old Kasandra Perkins. Belcher then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and killed himself in front of team officials. The Manhattan City Commission met on Tuesday night at City Hall for their legislative meeting, and received a good helping of public comment on everything from NBAF to tree cutting. Representatives from Westar Energy briefed the commission on an initiative called Reliabilitree which they say focuses on cyclic maintenance of trees to ensure safety, and the reduction of power outages. The Manhattan High basketball teams kept Wichita Word of Life guessing on Tuesday night in their newly refurbished gymnasium in a doubleheader sweep.  The Tribe girls wasted no time running away from the Lady Fire, leading 26-4 after the first quarter, and 44-11 at the half.  MHS (2-0) got 20 points from Darby Price, as they dominated Word of Life on the boards. LENEXA, Kan. (AP) Lenexa police say a woman whose body was found in a grocery store parking lot died of a heart attack. KMBC-TV reports a person passing by the area called police after coming across the woman’s body in an Aldi parking lot just after dawn Tuesday. Police spokesman Dan Friesen says the man went to see if he could help but discovered the woman might have been lying there for a while. The woman, who appears to be in her late 50s, was next to her rental car. Her name had not been released as of Tuesday evening.

COLWICH, Kan. (AP) Westar Energy officials say one of the utility’s plants near Colwich will be closed for at least two months for repairs from a fire. Westar officials say customers should not notice any impact from the closure. A transformer at the plant failed last Wednesday, causing an explosion and fire. Westar officials estimate it will cost between $5 million and $8 million to repair the plant. KAKE-TV reports the plant has a spare transformer that will be used until repairs are complete. Westar uses the plant mostly during peak summer months. No one was injured in the fire.…

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is accepting applications for small grants to help schools reduce solid waste and increase their recycling. The department is taking applications online until Feb. 15. KDHE will award grants ranging from $2,000 to $5,000 for projects that seek to reduce waste through education, composting and recycling. But the projects must be integrated into classroom instruction. KDHE Bureau of Waste Management Director William Bider says one goal is to teach students and school workers habits that can be applied in their homes or other places.
