The Manhattan High girls made quick work of Highland Park in a 65-33 win at the MHS gym Friday night. 13 Indians scored in the game and all 16 players who suited up saw the floor. Manhattan had an 18-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and then outscored the Scots 30-5 in the second and third quarters to put it away. The 13th Annual Manhattan Area Garden Show was held Saturday and Sunday at Pottorf Hall in Cico Park.  The event featured ten seminars and over 20 vendors. Saturday’s seminars kicked off at 10 a.m. with “How An Irrigation Audit May Improve Your Water Bill” presented by KSU Horticulture Agent-Cathie Lavis.  Other KSU Horticulture seminars featured during the weekend-“Growing Kansas Fruit”, “Mulching to Hold Moisture”, “Preserving the Harvest”, “Irrigating Plants”, and “Spectacular Shrubs”. Riley County Police continue to search for suspects in a weekend armed robbery at a Manhattan hotel. At about 4:52 AM Saturday two armed men entered the Hilton Garden Inn located at 410 S 3rd St, and demanded money from a clerk. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken, and there were no reported injuries The first suspect was wearing a dark grey sweatshirt (possibly hooded) with a picture of a tiger on the front. The tiger emblem closely resembles LSU mascott, “Mike the Tiger”. The suspect was also wearing dark Dickies Brand work pants, and red and white athletic shoes…

A search warrant was served Friday and from that an arrest was made. A little before 5 pm in the 800 block of Bluemont, Riley County Police searched a residence in a case involving drugs. Tyrone Smalls, 24, of Manhattan, was arrested on several charges including the distribution of drugs within a thousand feet of a school. Smalls bond is set at $30,000. At about 5:45 pm Friday, the Riley County Fire Department was called to 16250 Fancy Creek Rd for a structure fire. When volunteer firefighters from the nearby Mayday fire station arrived, they discovered two people outside of the home and that the upstairs bedroom was on fire. Additional Riley County stations were requested. Firefighters entered the building and quickly knocked down the blaze to keep it from extending to the rest of the house. As more volunteers arrived, they were able to extinguish the rest of the smoldering items. All fire units cleared the scene by about 8:30 pm. The…

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A new report says the value of Kansas’ principal crops rose 11 percent last year to $8.2 billion. The figures were reported Friday by Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service. The agency says prices were higher for all crops except sunflowers, dry edible beans, cotton and potatoes. Kansas winter wheat production was valued at more than $2.8 billion, followed by corn production at $2.7 billion. The state’s soybean crop was estimated at nearly $1.2 billion, while sorghum trailed at $592.4 million.
