A Manhattan woman has been reported missing while traveling. Sixty three year old Benita Richards, who resides on the 1400 block of Beechwood Circle has been reported missing by her daughter. Allison Wisdom says that she last saw her mother when she dropped her off at the Kansas City International Airport. Richards was traveling to Honolulu, Hawaii in order to search for jobs. Wisdom reports that she had contact with her mother off and on until September 19th, but contact stopped at that time. She contacted Honolulu police, who advised her to contact her local police to file an initial report, and Riley…

Kansas State University is in mourning as it copes with the death of one of it’s own. Kansas State officials have announced 40 year old Roy Barnett died last Friday..  Barnett attended the University of Oklahoma, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1994, a master’s degree in 1997 and a doctorate in 2001 in sociology with a specialty in criminology. His mother and three siblings live in Oklahoma. Barnett joined the Kansas State University department of sociology, anthropology and social work in 2001 as a temporary instructor. He taught sociology and criminology courses and was the faculty adviser for the Criminology Club.…

A local man was taken into custody Saturday on two failure to appear charges. Thirty one year old Keith Singson of Ogden was charged with two counts of failure to appear, with the original charges being  two counts of possession with intent to distribute Meth amphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, burglary, and misdemeanor theft. Bond was set at $30,000. __________________________________________________________________ Two local men have reported that they were the victim of an assault. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office is asking for assistance in locating an individual in connection with a recent burglary. Mark Lawrence,  32, described as 5’11, 165 pounds, blue eyes and red hair. His address is unknown. Lawrence has been driving a white ’96 Chevy Blazer 2 door with temp Kansas tag. Lawrence is wanted in connection with a burglary in Pottawatomie County. A warrant has been issued for Lawrence by the District Court of Pottawatomie County for Burglary, a level 7 person felony, and Theft. a class A nonperson misdemeanor. SALINA, Kan. (AP) A 38-year-old Salina police officer shot in the face has been released from the hospital. Salina police say Officer Chuck Huen was released from an Oklahoma City hospital Saturday, but he will require additional surgeries for injuries he sustained in the shooting late Thursday. Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield told The Salina Journal that Huen was shot by a Salina teen shortly after police entered a house while responding to a report of a stolen car. The shooting led to a six-hour standoff, which concluded with Marijon Gadson, 19, found dead in the basement of the house…

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Kansas City police have been investigating the death of a 22-year-old woman found shot to death in a car. Police on Sunday identified the victim as Krystal D. Robinson. The Kansas City Star reports that police were called to a shooting early Saturday. When they arrived at the scene, the vehicles involved in the incident were gone. Police later found Robinson in the back seat of an abandoned car. Witnesses told police the shot that killed Robinson came from a green pickup truck occupied by three men. No arrests have been made.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) A microbiologist at the University of Kansas has won a national award for his research into bacteria cells. Joe Lutkenhaus, a distinguished professor of microbiology, molecular genetics and immunology at Kansas, has been named one of three winners of Columbia University’s 2012 Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that Lutkenhaus won the honor along with Richard M. Losick of Harvard University and Lucy Shapiro of the Stanford University School of Medicine. Columbia announced the awards last week. Lutkenhaus says his discoveries showed that bacterial cells are more similar to the larger cells found in plants…
