KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) A play that tells the real stories of people involved in the litigation that toppled segregated education is being performed this week in Kansas City, Kan. The Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site in Topeka says it has worked with the Kansas City Kansas Community College to put on a performance of playwright Marcia Cebulska’ “Now Let Me Fly.” Because the National Park Service is helping to offset the cost, tickets are free to Thursday and Friday performances at the campus theater. The investigation continues after a truck was stolen from a local business in Pottawatomie County. An unknown person or persons entered the fenced area behind Griffith Lumber on Levee Drive sometime early Sunday morning. Once inside they took a 2008 GMC box truck and drove through the fence. The vehicle was recovered on Monday in the 500 block of Bertrand, but damages from the incident are in excess of $1,000 and the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department is looking for tips. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office at 785-457-3353.

A civil lawsuit against the city of Manhattan saw action in Riley County court on Wednesday afternoon. Four individuals who support the organization “Save Our Social Services”, or SOS, asked for a summary judgement against the city.  The case was brought to the courts by the plaintiffs in hopes its petition to have the city enact an ordinance requiring two percent of the city’s general fund budget to be earmarked for social services would go forward as a legal referendum. Several people convicted of area crimes are up for public comment sessions and possible parole the next few months. Ricky Perkins, 57, was convicted of rape in Geary county in 1979. He also was sentenced in connection with a 1993 case in Harvey county involving burglary. Perkins is up for public comment sessions in June, with the 17th in Kansas City City Hall, 19th in the Finney State Office Building in Wichita, and the 21st in the Landon State Office Building in Topeka. Several local law enforcement agencies are reportedly culminating a complex investigation Wednesday, with a news conference scheduled for Thursday afternoon. A media release just before noon from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation indicates  Riley County Police, the Geary County Attorney’s Office, Junction City Police Department, Geary County Sheriff’s Office, Grandview Plaza Police Department, and the KBI have been working on a complex operation. Officers including tactical units have been utilized to secure several locations which are the subject of search warrants in Manhattan, Ogden, and Junction City.
