Two unknown male suspects successfully broke into a hospital, but left after failing to enter a specific clinic. Early Wednesday morning, two men broke into Mercy Regional Health Center on Sunset.  The men shattered the store front glass window and attempted to enter the Pain Clinic.  After failing to enter the clinic, the suspects fled the building. The Wamego City Commission received a nice surprise. At Tuesday’s meeting, City Manager Merl Page introduced Flint Hills Regional Council Executive Director Ty Warner, who presented a check for over $7,000 , as a partial reimbursement of Wamego’s contribution to the Highway 24 Corridor Study. Warner said the distribution was based on what was paid in, and was attributed to a percentage of Ft. Riley’s growth. He said a total of $200,000  was coming back to the region. K-State moves up one spot in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches’ polls this week.  The Cats are now #21 in the media poll and # 20 in the coaches.  K-State is fresh off a 51-9 victory over Missouri State last Saturday, and will host Miami of Florida this week at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.  The Hurricanes opened the season last week by winning at Boston College 41-32. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Jeremy Guthrie pitched seven strong innings and the Kansas City Royals got home runs from Alex Gordon and Johnny Giavotella in a 6-3 victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.  Gordon broke a 2-all tie in the fifth with a two-run shot off Matt Harrison, the third home run he has allowed to a left-handed hitter this season.  After Salvador Perez’s run-scoring double with two outs, Harrison was replaced by Roy Oswalt. Manhattan City Commissioners approved the 2011 tax audit during a Tuesday night legislative session at Manhattan City Hall. Mayor Loren Pepperd had a few pointed questions on procedures to the auditors, and was given the answers by auditors and local experts such as Kansas State university’s head of finance department  Dr. Eric Higgins. Manhattan Director of Finance Bernie Hayen said this audit was the mostly heavily vetted procedure since he retook office, and appreciated the work done by the auditors and his staff. LEAWOOD, Kan. (AP) Police in northeastern Kansas say they’re not actively seeking suspects in the deaths of two people found inside a home. Officers went to the home in Kansas City suburb of Leawood on Tuesday afternoon after a relative requested a welfare check. Details about the two people have not been released, but investigators say the deaths were not from natural causes.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) A Kansas drug enforcement unit checking a report of a suspected meth lab found something quite different. The Hutchinson News reports Reno County investigators went to a Hutchinson apartment Tuesday where neighbors complained of a strong odor. But instead of a meth lab, the suspicious contraption turned out to be a fuel cell in simple terms, a device that converts the chemical energy of a fuel and an oxidant into electrical energy. The man who was making the fuel cell was not arrested. But officers on the scene did take in another person suspicion of theft.
