TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback is inviting state employees to pack a lunch for a picnic in their honor Friday on the Statehouse grounds. The governor is even promising to hand out free cookies and ice cream to the first 1,000 state workers who attend the event on the Capitol’s south lawn. His office also plans to have a blues and jazz band play. Brownback says Cabinet secretaries and agency directors will join him in handing out the goodies. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A Kansas prosecutor is taking a few more days to wrap up his investigation of private meetings between Gov. Sam Brownback and state legislators at the governor’s official residence. An assistant says Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor expects to report his findings next week. Initially, the report was expected by Friday night. Brownback held seven dinner meetings in January at Cedar Crest with members of 13 legislative committees, most of them fellow Republicans. Riley County police are investigating a report of a missing Kansas State student who had been listed on the K-State football team roster up until recently. Kristi Harvill reported her son,  Samuel Harvill, 20,  had not been seen since 1:30 Wednesday afternoon. Harvill made the report late Thursday morning, with the announcement reaching KMAN a few hours later. As of 4:00 pm on Friday, there is still no word as to the whereabouts of Harvill. The RCPD is currently attempting to contact Harvill to check his welfare. Medical issues are reportedly involved. Harvill may be in a Silver 2005 Dodge R15 Pick-up…

The Pottawatomie county sheriff’s department is investigating the death of a woman near the Little Grill on Dyer Road near the Tuttle Creek State Lake, reported Wednesday afternoon. Sheriff Greg Riat tells KMAN the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a medical call at that location in rural Manhattan at about three in the afternoon. Emergency units responding located an unresponsive female in a vehicle in the parking lot. It was determined the female was deceased, and had apparently suffered from a gunshot. K-State head baseball coach Brad Hill has hired Mike Clement as his new hitting coach.  Clement replaces former associate head coach John Szefc, who left the Cats after two seasons to become the head coach at Maryland.  Clement has spent the last three seasons at Texas A&M as a volunteer assistant, working with former K-State hitting coach Andy Sawyers.  He previously was on the Texas-San Antonio staff for four seasons, including three years as a full-time assistant. Riley County Police report between 1:34 pm and 5:58 pm Wednesday, a pickup truck was stolen from the Wal-Mart parking lot. William Kidney, 26, of Manhattan, reported his 1991 Ford Wrangler was taken. Officers reportedly checked the security footages and obtained a few leads. Following a traffic stop at about 6:30 pm in the 100 block of south 14th street,  Jessica Cook, 25 and  George Gibson III, 34, both of Topeka, were arrested in connection with the case. RIO DE JANEIRO (AP)   K-State has wrapped up its weeklong basketball exhibition tour of Brazil with a record of 2-2 after a fifth game was scrubbed because of scheduling conflicts.  First-year head coach Bruce Weber says the Wildcats were disappointed by the cancellation of Wednesday night’s scheduled game.  They spent the day instead shopping, sightseeing and taking cable cars to the of Rio’s Sugar Loaf Mountain.  K-State played two games in Rio and two in Sao Paulo, recording one win and one loss in each city.  Angel Rodriguez finished the tour with team-high averages of 10.3 points, 4.8 assists…
