(Courtesy K-State Sports Information) Senior Jordan Henriquez scored 13 points on 5-of-5 field goals, including a rare 3-pointer, as Kansas State posted a 59-46 win over Pinda, a Brazillian lower division club on Sunday morning. The win was the second in less than 24 hours for K-State after knocking off pro club Mogi Das Cruzes Club, 79-72, on Saturday night. K-State shot 47.6 percent (20-of-42) from the field, including 25 percent (4-of-16) from 3-point range. The Wildcats were solid from the free throw line, knocking down 9-of-10 attempts. BALTIMORE (AP)   Manny Machado hit his third homer in four major league games, Nick Markakis also connected, and the Baltimore Orioles got four hitless innings from their bullpen in a 5-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.  Mark Reynolds drove in the tiebreaking run in the sixth inning for the Orioles, who earned a split of the four-game series.  Machado hit a two-run homer in the second off former Orioles pitcher Bruce Chen (8-10).  Machado tripled in his debut Thursday night, homered twice in his second game and doubled in a run Saturday night.  With his home…

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP)   Graham Zusi notched the winning goal and his 10th assist to lift Sporting Kansas City to a 2-1 win over D.C. A public hearing for the 2013 Manhattan City budget will be held on Tuesday during the city commission meeting. The new budgets is proposed to be $120,049, 142, and will include a small  increase in mill levy rates from 2012’s 42 to 43.4. Manhattan Assistant City Planner Jason Hilgers says the budget includes a 4%  increase in stormawater fees, and discussion on the 2013 Salary Ordinance.  Hilgers says the Manhattan city staff will provide many options for the public and commissioners to consider, but will be asking the commission to implement the 2013 budget as published.  The second item on…

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Wichita’s signature event has lost money for the fourth straight year and organizers say reserves that helped cover the deficits are nearly depleted. The Wichita Eagle reports the River Festival is expected to lose about $85,000 this year as button sales and corporate sponsorships have failed to keep pace with expenditures. Wichita Festivals Inc. puts the blame on the economy, though there’s also some concern that people are attending the events without purchasing a $5 button they’re asked to have. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A Kansas prison inmate who was convicted of killing a Wichita man more than three decades ago has been granted parole. The Wichita Eagle reports 57-year-old Ronnie Rhodes was notified earlier this week of the decision after being rejected for parole eight times in the past. Department of Corrections spokesman Jeremy Barclay says Rhodes will be released to a state-approved structured living facility. He will remain at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility until plans are completed for that move. Rhodes was convicted of first-degree murder in the Feb. 2, 1981, stabbing death of 48-year-old Cleother Burrell. Rhodes had…
