LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) Law enforcement officials want to install police-controlled surveillance cameras in downtown Lawrence. City commissioners will consider Tuesday whether to allow Lawrence police and the Douglas County Sheriff to use $46,800 in grants to buy two hd wireless security camera systems for downtown. Lawrence police chief Tarik Khatib says video systems help enhance public safety. He says temporary cameras proved valuable during the spring celebration of the Kansas Jayhawks’ run through the Final Four, and they would help during parades or if a child was missing downtown. HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) A Hutchinson man who’s suffering from Lyme Disease wants to raise awareness about the tick-borne illness in Kansas. Andy Green was bitten by a tick in 2009 while in Arkansas. The bite developed into a red circular rash, which he assumed it was a spider bite. But Green had actually been bitten by a tick carrying the bacteria that causes Lyme Disease. The bite has left him in constant pain, disabled, and unable to work. And Green and his family say finding doctors well-versed in Lyme has been a challenge. OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) A soldier from Overland Park will be honored before his funeral on Wednesday. Twenty-three-year-old Pfc. Cale Miller died May 24 when he was trapped inside a vehicle when it was hit by a roadside bomb. Miller’s body is scheduled to arrive Monday morning at the Olathe airport. City officials have encouraged residents to line the street along the route of the processional for Miller. He was a 2007 Olathe Northwest graduate. His funeral is scheduled for Wednesday. Gov. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A legal challenge filed against the state of Kansas over the funding of public schools has reached Shawnee County District Court. Attorneys are scheduled to present opening arguments Monday before a three-judge panel. The trial is scheduled to last as long as three weeks. The lawsuit was filed in 2010 by attorneys representing 54 school districts claiming the state is reneging on its promise to maintain suitable levels of funding for education. Between midnight and 2 a.m. Saturday, Casey Dassel, 21,  reports someone forced entry into her home and stole various items from her residence. Stolen was miscellaneous jewelry, clothes, purses, shoes, $100 cash, two iPod touches, two MacBook Pros, and one Sony camera. The estimated loss is around $5000. 2.) A string of intentionally set fires around the area of Denison is now being viewed as aggravated arson. The first fire was set around 2:30 a.m. Monday. Fire was set to a range stove at 1803 College Heights St. # 8. The apartment is owned by McCullough Development and was empty at the time of the incident. STILLWATER, Okla. (AP)   Jacksonville Jaguars first-round draft pick receiver Justin Blackmon is due in court after he was arrested on an aggravated DUI charge this weekend in Oklahoma.  Payne County sheriff Sgt. Brandon Ingham says the 22-year-old former Oklahoma State star is scheduled to go before a judge Monday afternoon.  Authorities say Blackmon was arrested early Sunday morning after a breathalyzer test showed he had had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.  The Jaguars selected Blackmon with the fifth pick in this year’s NFL draft in the hopes that he could upgrade the league’s worst…

(AP)   Vin Mazzaro pitched six stellar innings and the Kansas City Royals beat punchless Oakland 2-0 Sunday, handing the Athletics their third shutout in four games.  Eric Hosmer homered as the Royals sent the A’s to their 10th loss in 11 games.  Mazzaro (2-0), who pitched for the A’s in 2009-10 before being traded to the Royals, allowed four singles, walked three and struck out three.  Mazzaro escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first after giving up singles to Collin Cowgill and Josh Reddick and walking Kila Ka’aihue.  Brandon Inge grounded out to end the inning. …
