Two failure to appear charges lead to the arrest of a Manhattan woman. Riley County Police told reporters on Monday that at approximately 9:30 Friday night, they took into custody Tawnee Gorman (32) of the 2000th block of Judson St. in Manhattan and charged her with two counts of failure to appear. The original charges against Gorman were one count of forgery and one count of drug and paraphernalia possession. The Riley County Public Works Department currently holds three wheel loaders in their possession, one of which is being leased. The other two are over 20 years old, one 1989 loader and one 1990 loader, and are becoming less than reliable. Public Works Director, Leon Hobson came before commissioners at their Monday meeting to express concern regarding the 1989 loader in particular. Hobson shared photos of the rust beginning to collect on the vehicle. These loaders are used for culvert projects and snow removal, so Hobson recommended looking into purchasing a new loader before snow season hits. The commission voted…
Several residences and vehicles have suffered moderate to severe damages as the result of what appears to be vandalism. Riley County police told KMAN on Monday that over this past weekend, twenty-seven cases of damage to property were reported to them. Twenty-four of those cases involved damage to vehicles, while three were damage to homes. Most of the damage to the vehicles involved either a projectile from a pellet type of gun or a blunt object striking one ore more windows. Windows on the homes suffered the same kind of damage. The training will be in preparation for the unit’s assignment as the U.S. Army’s first Regionally Aligned Force. Nearly ninety K-State students met at Triangle Park on Sunday, November 4th in an attempt to clear an area of Manhattan of garbage. The students split into groups in order to cover more ground, which was almost twelve square blocks. Some of these small groups assisted elderly residents and those who can not clear the garbage themselves. The group was brought together by Manhattan Good Neighbors, which is a partnership of the City of Manhattan and Kansas State University. HAYS, Kan. (AP) The body of a 25-year-old Fort Hays State University student who had been missing since Wednesday has been found. A search team found the body of Ivone “Yosset” Martinez Saturday morning near Hays. KSN reports police believe there is no evidence of foul play in her death. Martinez was last seen Wednesday afternoon on the Fort Hays State campus. Hays police are asking anyone with information about what happened to Martinez to call them.
