Manhattan residents were treated on Thursday with perfect weather for the 2024 kickoff to the “Third Thursdays” annual series of street fairs. The event featured an interactive window mural of Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night” on the 4th street windows, as well as watercolor art, pottery, wood turning, henna tattoo, cross stitch, a cake walk, and many kids activities. Terry Ripple is a professional potter who has been attending Third Thursdays since the event began. Officers filed a report of an injury accident at mile marker  185 on Fort Riley Blvd on May 15, 2024, at approximately 10:23 AM.  The report states a Jeep hydroplaned hitting the guardrail.  The driver of the Jeep was transported to Via Christi with non-life threatening injuries. Many Manhattan residents on Tuesday received text messages opposing a “new rec and fitness center” because of the tax increases that likely would come with it. The message reads, “Inflation. Rising gas prices. Now more taxes?!” The messages seem to refer to a plan by city parks and rec officials, who have proposed, among other things, revamping City Park and constructing a new indoor aquatic center on the park’s northern edge near Fremont Street. MANHATTAN, Kan. (K-State Athletics) – Kansas State added depth to its quarterback room on Wednesday with the signing of transfer Ta’Quan Roberson to a Financial Aid Agreement. Roberson, a former top-15 quarterback recruit out of high school, is transferring to K-State after two seasons at UConn after he began his collegiate career at Penn State. He is the third FBS transfer signee by the Wildcats this spring after they picked up running back Dylan Edwards and linebacker Alec Marenco. Officers filed a report of escape from custody in the 1000 block of South Seth Child Road on May 14, 2024, at approximately 3:36 PM.  Officers listed Justin Brown, 34, of Manhattan as the escapee when it was reported Brown did not arrive at the workforce center nor did he return to the jail.
