Wichita Falls, Texas product Marcus Foster has become the second commitment to Bruce Weber and K-State in the class of 2013, according to GoPowercat.com.  The 6 foot, 2 inch 185 pound shooting guard was recruited by Wildcat assistant Alvin Brooks III, and chose K-State over offers from Oklahoma, Cal, Creighton, SMU, and Lehigh.  Foster averaged 24.2 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game during his junior year at Wichita Falls Hirschi.  K-State is also reportedly hot on the trail of Foster’s AAU teammate, Jeffrey Carroll, a three-star small forward in the 2013 class.

– The Manhattan High volleyball finished second at the Shawnee Mission South tournament on Saturday.  Three teams went 4-1 in the round robin format, and the Indians were the runner-up on a tie breaker.  MHS lost to tourney champion Mill Valley 17-25, 27-25, and 15-25.  But the Tribe beat Lawrence 25-22, 24-26 and 25-20, Shawnee Mission South 25-21, 25-22, Wichita Southeast 25-9, 25-13, and Olathe South 20-25, 25-14, and 25-19.  MHS is 6-2 on the season. – Riley County volleyball came in second at their home invitational on Saturday.  The Falcons earned wins against Linn, Valley Heights, St. Marys and…

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)   Matt Ryan threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns, one of them to Tony Gonzalez in his return to Kansas City, and the Atlanta Falcons pounded the short-handed Chiefs 40-24 on Sunday.  Ryan also ran for a TD, while Julio Jones caught six passes for 108 yards and two scores.   The Falcons took advantage of a Chiefs defense missing four starters.  Pro Bowl linebacker Tamba Hali was suspended for an unspecified violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy, and three others were injured.  Still, Kansas City matched Atlanta most of the first half, trailing 20-17…

CHICAGO (AP)   Mike Moustakas stroked a go-ahead single in the 10th inning to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.   The Royals plated both their runs with two outs in the 10th off Brett Myers (2-3), the seventh of eight White Sox pitchers in the game.  The rally started after Alcides Escobar was thrown out, leaving the bases empty and two outs.  Myers walked Billy Butler, who was replaced by pinch runner Jarrod Dyson.  Salvador Perez, Moustakas and Jeff Francoeur then hit consecutive singles, the last two driving in runs. …

A hearing was held this Monday morning at 10:30 a.m.  in Riley County District court for Cole Drake. Drake was charged with the homicide of fellow Manhattan High School student Tyler Dowling in April of last year.  A motion to suppress was denied on August 21st, and the next court appearance will be Monday September 24th. Monday’s hearing was settled in chambers and Drake’s lawyer could not comment at this time.  Stay tuned to KMAN for information on the result of this hearing, and coverage of Drake’s trial at the end of this month.

A new federal grant for the airport,  and the upcoming metropolitan planning organization will be on the plate for Tuesday night’s Manhattan city Commission meeting. Manhattan Commissioners will be looking at funding and contracts for improving the Manhattan airport apron, and part of that process will include accepting a grant from the FAA for $1, 890, 734.00.  Commissioners are also looking deeper into the MPO process as they consider staff suggestions for two maps.  One which includes Fort Riley, and a smaller version which encloses the area immediately around the city of  Manhattan.   A new exhibit featuring the history of the local area has opened at the Flint Hills Discovery Center. Forces: The Shaping of Manhattan, Fort Riley, and Kansas State University showcases the three entities that make this area so special. The nation took notice when K-State throttled Miami 52-13 on Saturday, and the Cats have risen up the ranks in both the AP and Coaches’ poll.  K-State jumps six spots in both surveys, and the Cats are now #14 according to the coaches, and the media has voted them #15.  In the AP poll, Oklahoma is now tied with Florida State at #5 as the Sooners beat Florida A&M 69-13 on Saturday.  West Virginia remains #9 in the country after an open date.  Texas is ranked #14, just ahead of K-State, as the Longhorns shut out New Mexico 45-0.  TCU…
