The Flint Hills Area Transportation Agency (ATA Bus) will be adding two new city-wide fixed routes to its daily commute throughout Manhattan. ATA Bus Director Anne Smith told the Riley County commission on Monday that the new routes will go into effect starting April 23. “We’re really looking forward to being able to provide this expansion of services to Manhattan,” Smith said. The new routes will be in addition to the smaller fixed routes that are already in place. Pottawatomie County Commissioners were updated on several items, from roads to office closings, Monday morning. Leu Lowrey, Pottawatomie County Public Works Director, brought updates from the Whispering Meadows Subdivision. The subdivision is getting upgrades to their streets, water, and sewer systems. Lowrey said that they have finished the sewer portion on the project and are now starting on the water. Lowrey brought updates for roads and bridges as well. An Ogden woman has been sentenced to 13 and a half years in prison for aggravated battery in connection with a domestic dispute in Ogden and subsequent injury accident in early July of last year. Elizabeth Heaven, 29, was sentenced in Riley County district court Monday morning to 162 months for aggravated battery, and 12 months for aggravated assault, to be served concurrently. Heaven was originally charged with attempted second degree murder in connection with the case, but entered a no contest plea to aggravated battery and aggravated assault last month.

1. Police say a  break in near the 6100 block of Tuttle terrace  resulted in a loss of over $2,400  in equipment. Lynn Blecha told Riley county police officers  two chainsaws and battery operated tools were taken from a shop located on Tuttle Terrace on Friday evening. SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP)   The Kansas City Royals optioned Clint Robinson, who hit .326 with 23 home runs and 100 RBIs last season for Omaha, to their Pacific Coast League Triple-A affiliate. The 27-year-old became just the third player in Texas League history to win the Triple Crown with a .335 average, 29 homers and 98 RBIs in 2010. The Royals also optioned outfielders David Lough, who hit .316 in 14 spring training games, and Derrick Robinson, who led the Texas League in stolen bases the past two seasons, to Omaha.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas is receiving a $4.4 million federal grant to continue efforts to turn around its persistently lowest-achieving schools. The Kansas State Department of Education says the money will benefit seven schools in the Wichita, Kansas City, Kan., Topeka, Cherokee and Liberal school districts. The schools have received funding previously from the U.S. Department of Education program, which requires districts to choose an aggressive turnaround model. One option is replacing the principal and improving the school through comprehensive reforms.
