A Kansas State Ring of Honor inductee and an all-time great Wildcat wide receiver is now one of the top names on the NFL’s free agency list heading into the 2025 season. On Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks released Tyler Lockett, parting ways with the wide receiver after 10 seasons. The Seahawks made the move as opposed to paying Lockett $17 million this season, including a $5.3 million roster bonus due March 16. USD 383 school board members want individuals and groups in the community to participate in a series of meetings later this spring to discuss the effects of smart phone use and screen time on students. William Benner, 23, of Manhattan, was arrested on March 4, 2025, at approximately 7:55 PM in the 1000 block of S. Seth Child Road. Benner was apprehended on a Riley County District Court warrant for failure to appear. The original charges stemmed from a previous incident involving possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while suspended. Kansas State baseball’s Maximus Martin was voted the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. The transfer from Georgia State is the second Wildcat to garner a weekly award, joining left-hander Lincoln Sheffield, who picked up Co-Newcomer of the Week honors last week. A native of Edgewater Park, N.J., Martin led the way for a Wildcat offense that outscored opponents 28-17 and out-hit opponents 33-25. She is being tried for the double-homicide of her ex-husband Michael Sisco and his fiancée, Karen Harkness. The trial for the July 6, 2002, murders is taking place in Pottawatomie County, after concerns about influence from media coverage in Shawnee County. Courtney Jane Hochman filed as candidate in the race for a spot on the USD 383 Manhattan-Ogden board of education Tuesday morning after running in 2023. Hochman is a 25-year Manhattan resident with both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education from K-State. She’s currently working on a PhD in student affairs in higher education. Crews began demolishing the downtown Commerce Bank building Monday as part of plans to construct a new retail and residential space in its place. Manhattan city commissioners in December approved more than $2 million in tax breaks to raze the building at 727 Poyntz Ave., including a 10-year property tax abatement and a sales tax exemption on construction materials. The request, which came from Hutton Development, also included an appeal to the city government to pay for half the cost of improvements to Poyntz Avenue. Joseph Marlow, 25, of Manhattan, was arrested on March 3, 2025, at approximately 7:20 PM in the 1000 block of S. Seth Child Road. Marlow was taken into custody on a probable cause offense of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. His total bond was set at $125,000, and he is currently confined at the time of the report.
