Three juveniles were taken into custody by Pottawatomie county sheriff’s department officials early Tuesday morning, in connection with a burglary in rural St. George and theft of a vehicle. According to Sheriff Greg Riat, Sgt. Brad Rose of the Pottawatomie County Sheriffs Office came into contact with 3 male individuals in a parking lot near Bluemont Avenue in Manhattan shortly before 1:30 in the morning. The three were in a 2004 Ford Mustang. While speaking with the male juveniles Sgt. Rose became aware of the presence of an illegal drug. Sgt. The Kansas Department of Transportation issued an update regarding road access on K-18 Tuesday afternoon. The update noted that all access from K-18 to Miller Parkway has been closed and that Scenic Drive access to K-18 has been restricted to right in and right out-only movements. In a complete about-face, the Kansas house voted down a measure it had tentatively approved Tuesday for Congressional redistricting. The Capitol one plan failed 48-76 in a final vote Wednesday morning. State Represenative Sydney Carlin of Manhattan had told KMAN news Tuesday afternoon she was pleased with the vote of 70 to 51 that day, but overnight some changes obviously were made and the measure was rejected. Manhattan citizens need to be on the lookout for magazine salesmen. Two arrests have been made regarding “soliciting without a permit”. On Friday, Jason Adams, 24, of Titusville, Florida, was arrested around 1:00 p.m. on the 600 Block of Bertrand. Adams was reported to have been walking around knocking on doors trying to sell “Back A Winner” magazines. He claimed that there were 12 other salesman in the area selling for the same company. You would think finding two of your tires slashed would be enough bad luck for one day, but for a Manhattan man, it was only the beginning. Around midnight on Monday, Michael Senn, 28, was leaving Little Apple Lanes when he discovered two of his tires had been slashed. When he pulled over to address the issue, he was knocked unconscious by an unknown attacker. When he woke up an hour later, he found that $1,500 worth of property had been removed from his vehicle. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Shawnee County Commission has voted to support an initiative aimed at improving the water quality at Lake Shawnee. The commissioners heard testimony Monday from area health and environment officials who said Lake Shawnee has a water quality problem that could lead to limitations being placed on its use for recreation. County parks director Terry Bertels said tests show the lake consistently exceeds EPA standards for nutrients and pollutants. FORT SCOTT, Kan. (AP) Heavy rain across southeast Kansas and sections of Missouri has sparked flash flooding, forcing the closure of area bridges and one rural roadway. The National Weather Service issued flood warnings for several counties in southeast Kansas and western Missouri early Tuesday after up to 3 inches of rain hit the area. More rain was forecast for Tuesday. The weather service said flooding was reported in low-lying areas, including along the Marmaton River in Fort Scott, Kan.
