Kansas State’s last home football game is quickly approaching, and that means the likelihood of littering. Manhattan Good Neighbors, a partnership of the city of Manhattan and Kansas State, is organizing its final “kickoff clean up” Sunday afternoon from one to three. Volunteers are asked to sign up in advance by going to handson.ksu.edu or by emailing mgn@ksu.edu. Student coordinator Nicole Allen says many of the volunteers are K-State students. When we first started to hear about AIDS several years ago, many of us were frightened as many died from the infection. While HIV/Aids is still out there, there is hope for those who are infected. Almost time for pomp and circumstance again, with about 1,655  students graduating from Kansas State next week. Ceremonies are set for Friday and Saturday next week, on the university campuses in Manhattan and Salina. More than 1,200 bachelor’s degrees, 335 master’s degrees, about 70 doctoral degrees, and more than 20 associate degrees will be awarded. 70 students are candidates to receive multiple degrees and nearly 100 distance students are candidates for graduation. MANHATTAN, Kan. – Freshman Thomas Gipson continued his strong play this season as he recorded his first career double-double as the Wildcats beat George Washington 69-56 Thursday night and move to 4-0 on the year. Gipson grabbed a career high 13 rebounds and added 17 points. This is the third consecutive game Gipson has the Wildcats in scoring. Senior Jamar Samuels also contributed a double-double on the night with 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was his sixth career double-double. LINCOLN, Neb. – In the Kansas State Wildcats’ return to the NCAA Tournament, the middle blockers took control at the net as Kaitlynn Pelger and Alex Muff led the team in a sweep over Wichita State in the first round. Pelger posted her 13th double-double on the year leading the team in kills and digs while Muff posted her third match of the season with double-digit kills. A 23 year old Manhattan man faces charges in connection with three recent robberies in Manhattan. Mark Wyche was taken into custody after a search warrant was served, with evidence linking him to the robberies of Dara’s Fast Lane at 5321 Tuttle Creek Boulevard, Kanas State Bank on Poyntz and Community First Bank on Tuttle Creek Boulevard. Wyche was taken into custody at about 7:00 a.m. at his residence at 417 N. 4th St. He was later indicted by the United States government for the three robberies, and is being held on no bond at the Shawnee county correctional facility.…

After was has been a nearly decade long process, the Hilton Garden Inn opened its doors to the public on Wednesday. “It’s a very, very exciting day,” Lyle Butler, President of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, said. “I’ve been here for almost 12 years and this has been in the planning for almost 10 years so it’s great to see it come together.” Butler was one of hundreds of people who were on hand for Wednesday’s ribbon cutting ceremony. A meeting held at the Bluemont Dining Room at the K-State Student Union might have some less than perfect results. The meeting’s purpose was an update on the Flint Hills ATA program and transit, but Mayor Jim Sherow says that one protocol wasn’t followed, with a possible violation of the Kansas Open Meetings Act. KMAN news has confirmed a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the Kansas State Bank robbery nearly two weeks ago. FBI spokeswoman Bridget Patton announced that to KMAN Wednesday afternoon. Patton emphasized no federal charges have been filed yet, but a suspect was taken into custody as a joint effort of the FBI, Riley County Police, and Pottawatomie County sheriff’s department. Patton declined to identify a location of where the suspect was apprehended.
