(AP) – Republicans have long enjoyed a voter registration advantage in Kansas; a Democratic presidential candidate hasn’t carried the state since Lyndon Johnson in 1964, and former President Donald Trump carried it by big margins in 2016 and 2020. Yet the electorate also can have a sizeable number of independent and moderate GOP voters, and voters in August decisively rejected a proposed amendment to the Kansas Constitution that would have allowed the GOP-controlled Legislature to further restrict or ban abortion. That scrambled the national conversation on the issue. Democrats hoped that the energy from the August vote would linger and help Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly, while…

Manhattan City Commissioners Tuesday voted 4 to 1 to amend an Economic Development Agreement with housing development and management firm The Prime Company. That’s Commissioner Usha Reddi. The city in 2021 approved the agreement with The Prime Company, officially Elsey Holdings LLC, providing a 65 thousand dollar grant if it meets certain requirements – including hiring 13 full time employees and constructing a new HQ in Manhattan. With city approval, the amendment removed the requirement to build a new facility as they instead plan to renovate a building at 2101 Vanesta Place for that purpose. The agreement still nets the…

After requests by Aggieville representatives at that meeting, commissioners questioned the financial impact of increasing the free parking time in the garage – which came in at 53 thousand dollars per year per additional hour.…

Reid pleaded guilty in September to driving while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury.
