The commission in next Monday’s meeting will be asked to permit MakeMyMove to apply on behalf of Riley County for the Home in the Heartland grant bringing households from out-of-state into Riley County. MakeMyMove is a company which facilitates the relocation of existing households to different areas in the United States looking for new residents. U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, R-Kan., introduced a bill last week that would allow military base commanders to enter agreements with local officials. Moran is co-chair of the Senate Defense Communities Caucus. The legislation would expand the authority of Department of Defense base commanders to enter into intergovernmental service agreements (IGSA) in their local communities. Interim county counselor Jacob Hansen said in Thursday’s Riley County Commission meeting that someone from the Wabaunsee County government called him, saying a large hydrogen deposit was found which borders Wabaunsee County but is mainly located in Riley County. Hansen said HyTerra Ltd. found a deposit of 96.2% pure hydrogen in Riley County with their Nemaha Project. HyTerra is an Australian-based company drilling for white hydrogen in Kansas. White hydrogen is a naturally occurring gas, created when rainwater seeps underground…
Riley County Police are investigating a property damage incident that occurred Thursday evening in Manhattan. According to a report filed by officers, the incident happened around 5:14 p.m. on July 17 in the 800 block of Colorado Street. A 45-year-old man allegedly threw an item at a residence, damaging the windows. A 30-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were listed as victims in the case. Riley County Police are investigating after two men reportedly stole thousands of dollars in merchandise from the Manhattan Home Depot store. Officers filed a theft report Wednesday evening after it was reported the men, aged 65 and 54 took multiple tools, which were later recovered in Shawnee County. Riley County Police are investigating after a Manhattan couple reported someone attempted to break into their home on Laramie Street. Officers filed a report for attempted burglary and criminal damage to property Wednesday in the 700 block of Laramie Street. The residents who reported the incident told police an unknown person damaged their door, causing an estimated $500 in damage.
