Officials are investigating the death of a 22-year-old Fort Riley soldier at the northeast Kansas Army post. The soldier was identified as Pfc. Michael Webb, of Supply, North Carolina. The Topeka Capital Journal reports  Webb died Thursday. He was assigned to the 1st Engineer Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. The cause of Webb’s death wasn’t available Saturday.

Progress continues to be made in the trial of Luis Arguirre. Aguirre is charged with capital murder in the deaths of 18 year old Tanya Maldonado and her 15 month old son, Juan Luis Maldonado in October of 2009. On Friday afternoon, three more motions were made by the defense attorneys with the first two being rejected by Judge Meryl Wilson in Riley County District Court. Three people convicted in Riley county on murder charges are up for possible parole in the next few months. Delisha Branch, 40, was convicted in 1997 for first degree murder and aggravated robbery.old Duereal Campbell,31,  was convicted at about the same time for first degree murder and aggravated robbery. Riley County was led in scoring by Rachel Rheaume who had 18 points. Kelly Thomson chipped in 13 for the Falcons as well. The boys squad notched a 63-47 win over Colby in their opening round tilt. Kansas State’s last home football game is quickly approaching, and that means the likelihood of littering. Manhattan Good Neighbors, a partnership of the city of Manhattan and Kansas State, is organizing its final “kickoff clean up” Sunday afternoon from one to three. Volunteers are asked to sign up in advance by going to handson.ksu.edu or by emailing mgn@ksu.edu. Student coordinator Nicole Allen says many of the volunteers are K-State students. Almost time for pomp and circumstance again, with about 1,655  students graduating from Kansas State next week. Ceremonies are set for Friday and Saturday next week, on the university campuses in Manhattan and Salina. More than 1,200 bachelor’s degrees, 335 master’s degrees, about 70 doctoral degrees, and more than 20 associate degrees will be awarded. 70 students are candidates to receive multiple degrees and nearly 100 distance students are candidates for graduation. MANHATTAN, Kan. – Freshman Thomas Gipson continued his strong play this season as he recorded his first career double-double as the Wildcats beat George Washington 69-56 Thursday night and move to 4-0 on the year. Gipson grabbed a career high 13 rebounds and added 17 points. This is the third consecutive game Gipson has the Wildcats in scoring.
