BELLEVILLE, Kan. (AP) A 2-year-old Belleville boy has died after being run over by a payloader tractor near Scandia in north-central Kansas. The Salina Journal reports Cayden Michael Dunstan was with his father, who was strapping down large hay bales that had been loaded onto a semitrailer. The Republic County Sheriff’s Office says the tractor was being backed away from the trailer when Cayden ran into its path and was run over just after 7 p.m. Saturday. MULVANE, Kan. (AP) The first slot machines have started arriving at the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane as the state-owned facility gets closer to its anticipated January opening. The Wichita Eagle  reports the casino will receive 1,310 of the machines, which will arrive in truckloads of 50 to 70 this week. The slot machines were under heavy surveillance Wednesday as they arrived at the casino, which is still under construction. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) Lawrence police have told a group of protesters they won’t be allowed to continue camping overnight at a city park because their permit to stay there has expired. The Lawrence Journal-World reports nearly two dozen Occupy Lawrence protesters plan to remain in South Park after hours regardless of what officials told them. Roughly 50 protesters participated in the group’s nightly discussion, or general assembly, Wednesday after Police Chief Tarik Khatib said his department would start enforcing a law that prohibits camping at city parks. With October being Breast Cancer month, the Manhattan Ogden School Board showed their support during their regular meeting on Wednesday night by wearing pink.  Board Member Leah Fliter also told her own story about dealing with cancer. On Wednesday afternoon motions were made to admit two key pieces of evidence for the trial of Luis  Aguirre  at Riley County District Court. Aguirre is charged with capital murder in the deaths of 18-year old Tanya Maldonado and her 15-month old son, Juan Luis Maldonado in October of 2009. The motions involved email correspondence between the defendant and Tanya Maldonado, and statements from friends and family of the victim the prosecution believed to be pertinent to the trial. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A judge has ordered Kansas to restore federal family planning funds to a Dodge City clinic that claims it suffered “collateral damage” from a new state law aimed at defunding Planned Parenthood. U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Marten granted the request Tuesday from Dodge City Family Planning Clinic, which has no ties to Planned Parenthood. The judge had blocked the law’s enforcement in August and ordered Kansas to keep funding Planned Parenthood. The new law requires Kansas to allocate federal family planning funds first to public health departments and hospitals, effectively leaving no money for specialty clinics.…

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Nearly two dozen agencies and hundreds of people will converge on Wichita’s Mid-Continent Airport for a mock disaster drill Thursday. The Wichita Airport Authority says the full-scale disaster exercise is required every three years by the Federal Aviation Administration. The scenario for Thursday morning’s drill involves a large commercial aircraft with 78 passengers and crew colliding with a small, general aviation plane on a runway.
