Manhattan Mayor Jim Sherow thinks progress is being made on what to do with the Kansas River bridge piers possibly being used for signage. However Sherow admits some questions remain. The piers apparently belong to the Kansas Department of Transportation, and are also in the unincorporated area of Riley County, which would mean they fall under the county’s recent moratorium on signage on highways that went into effect a couple of weeks ago. The moratorium lasts for a year. That means the city, if it’s able to obtain at least one of the piers, would have to abide by the…

Additionally, Schoen said that a new system will be used in 2012 which will examine ‘benign’ calls; calls that didn’t result in a response.

Ten times more students are taking nuclear engineering courses than were nearly 20 years ago. That’s according to William D. Magwood IV, a commissioner of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, who visited Kansas State Thursday. Magwood adds he’s seen a lot of changes in nuclear energy in the nearly two decades he’s actively worked with the Department of Energy. He says the mid-90’s showed little interest in the field. And Magwood reminds us of Kansas State’s importance with it’s nuclear reactor–that is close to celebrating it’s 50th anniversary. Magwood said he also wanted to visit Kansas State to learn more about…
