WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A former slave who later became the first black graduate of Southwestern College in Winfield no longer lies anonymously at a Wichita cemetery. The Rev. Elijah Pilgrim Geiger now has a tombstone at Maple Grove Cemetery recognizing his achievements as a minister and a scholar. Geiger lived from 1864 to 1943 and had been buried in an unmarked grave. The Wichita Eagle reports Geiger graduated from Southwestern in 1899 and went on to become a Wichita minister. OLATHE, Kan. (AP) A body found Saturday in a wooded area in Miami County has been identified as 20-year-old Olathe resident Samuel J. Hargrove. Hargrove was reported missing Thursday after last being seen in a green Buick LaSabre, and his body was found about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Police say there were no signs of criminal activity. They had issued an alert for him early Saturday after concerns were raised about his well-being. Investigators from the Olathe Police Department and Miami County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the discovery of Hargrove’s body.

Riley County Police Captain Kurt Moldrup tells KMAN Trever Olson, 19, suffered a gunshot wound to his upper right arm while playing Russian Roulette with friends around 11:30 Saturday night. The incident occurred in the 700 block of Dondee Drive. Moldrup says charges of aggravated battery are being considered due to the reckless manner in which the group was using a firearm, though none had been filed as of Monday morning. A woman is dead following an apparent suicide Saturday at Mercy Regional Health Center. Riley County Police reports say 31-year-old Sarah Jurgensmeier (Jur’g’ens’meyer) of Houston, Texas, allegedly shot herself with a rifle in the parking lot of Mercy on College Avenue. The shot was heard by a witness and hospital staff was quickly on the scene, where they found Jurgensmeier already dead. The incident occurred just after 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
