PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Big East Commissioner John Marinatto has resigned. The conference said Monday that Marinatto had decided to step down after less than three years in the position. The Big East lost several high-profile members under his watch. In a statement from the conference, Marinatto says he is “proud of what we have been able to accomplish.” Former Miami Dolphins CEO Joseph A. Bailey III will serve as interim commissioner. LAS VEGAS (AP) Floyd Mayweather Jr. used his speed and accuracy to win a unanimous decision Saturday night over a game Miguel Cotto in one of his toughest fights ever. Mayweather dominated late, rocking Cotto in the 12th round to pull out a win and remain unbeaten in 43 fights. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) I’ll Have Another caught Bodemeister down the stretch and pulled away in the final furlong on Saturday to win the Kentucky Derby. Jockey Mario Gutierrez, riding in his first Derby, guided the 3-year-old colt ahead of Bob Baffert’s Bodemeister and a late closing Dullahan to win on a fast track. It was trainer Doug O’Neill’s first Derby victory. He had never finished better than 13th in the Kentucky Derby with two other horses.
