The National Response Team from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with ATF special agents from the Kansas City Field Division, have joined the investigation of the Strasser Village apartment complex fire that occurred at 4th and Leavenworth on Nov. 6. The K-State volleyball hasn’t played in the NCAA tournament since 2008, but can pick up another quality win to help their cause on Wednesday night when they host Oklahoma.  The Cats rallied to defeat Texas A&M in five sets this past Saturday, and the Sooners are ranked #25 in the country.  K-State coach Suzie Fritz says the Cats need two or three more wins during the second half of Big 12 play to secure a bid into the Big Dance. Brittanny Chambers scored 22 points and Jalana Childs added 15 as the K-State women rallied past Washburn 52-50 in exhibition basketball at Bramlage Coliseum.  The Cats trailed by five with four minutes to go, but Chambers tied the game with a three pointer with 44 seconds left.  Chambers then hit Branshea Brown for the game-winning layup with three seconds to go. Manhattan’s City Commission gathered Tuesday night for a work session, with K-State President Kirk Schulz leading things off. Schulz was present to discuss K-State 2025, which aims to make K-State a top 50 ranked research university by the year 2025. Plans include improvements to existing buildings, new construction, and a host of other items. African American history in Manhattan was the next topic, with a presentation by Deon Wolfenbarger of Three Gables Preservation, located in Nederland, Colorado. More than 83 pounds of various drugs were collected in Manhattan recently, as part of a drug take back day. On Saturday, October 29th,  the Riley County Police Department, in cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Administration, held a drug take back day that consisted of two disposal sites in Manhattan. The goal of the event was to provide disposal sites for individuals to discard their unused or expired medications, thus reducing the chance of misuse or theft. NORMAN, Okla. (AP)   University of Oklahoma President David Boren said Monday the Big 12 Conference is settled with 10 teams through the 2012 football season, but didn’t rule out the possibility that two more teams could be added in 2013. “Definitely, I think we have the opportunity to back to 12, if we want to,” Boren told The Associated Press. The United States department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System Wednesday afternoon. The nationwide test will begin at 1 p.m, and is to last about 45 seconds. Kent Cornish, President of the Kansas Association of Broadcasters,  reminds us a nationwide emergency alert system was put into place four decades ago–but it’s never been tested. COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP)   Texas A&M running back Christine Michael will miss the rest of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in one of his knees.  The junior was injured in Saturday’s 41-25 loss to No. 7 Oklahoma.  He has 899 yards rushing and eight touchdowns this season.  Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman wasn’t sure which knee was injured, but says they will schedule surgery to repair it in a couple of weeks when the swelling subsides.  It’s the second straight year where Michael has had a season-ending injury after he broke his leg last October.  herman…
