A St. George man originally taken into custody for possible attempted murder entered a plea of no contest in Pottawatomie county district court today (Monday) to aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm into a vehicle. Chaz Santangelo was taken into custody this past May after the Pottawatomie county sheriff’s office received a 9-1-1 call from someone who said they had been shot at and their vehicle had been struck by gunfire at the St. George trailer court. Sentences have been upheld in 56 of 77 convictions involving a former Manhattan man involved in rape/sodomy cases occurring from December of 1999 to July of 2005. 42-year-old Ben Hinchsliff was sentenced in Riley County district court in July of 2009 on convictions including 66 counts of rape and 11 counts of criminal sodomy to a youngster under the age of 14. The court of appeals ruling came the end of last week. The student-created Fake Patty’s Day holiday has become a fixture in Manhattan over the past couple of years; however, the event has created it’s fair share of problems extending well beyond Sunday hangovers Manhattan city manager Ron Fehr tells KMAN finding ways to regulate Fake Patty’s will be the focus of tomorrow’s Manhattan City Commission work session. The “celebration” has caused multiple legal problems. RCPD received nearly 800 calls during last year’s holiday.
