Four face drug charges after a Friday morning bust by the Riley County Police Department. RCPD Lieutenant Josh Kyle tells KMAN the bust occurred Friday morning just after 7:30 in the 500 block of North Manhattan. A total of 12.5 ounces of marijuana was seized as a result of the search warrant with an approximate street value of $5,500. Arrested were Phillip Malcaluso, 19, Maxwell Zinser, 19, and Katherine Kearns, 19, all of Manhattan. Also picked up was Nicholas Fraken, 19, of Roeland Park, Kansas. A brush fire meant a lot of work for Riley county firefighters Sunday. The fire started on Corps of engineers property in northern Riley County spread to private property belonging to Junior Nelson of Randolph. Riley County Assistant Fire chief Doug Messer indicates it was in a difficult area for his firefighters to reach. “It’s about 175 acres,” Messer says. “It took us about four hours to contain it.” The fire was still burning when KMAN News talked to Messer Monday morning just before 8 a.m. He assured listeners the areas still burning were in no danger. “It was mainly…

FORT RILEY, Kan. (AP) The 1st Infantry Division’s headquarters is getting ready to leave Fort Riley and Kansas for a year in Afghanistan. The deployment marks the second overseas duty for the headquarters unit since the division’s flag returned to Fort Riley from Germany in 2006. The division staff spent a year in Iraq in 2010. A ceremony is scheduled for March 7 at Fort Riley for a formal casing of the division’s flag, signifying that it is deploying to combat. The sales tax receipts from the end of the holiday season are in and counted. Manhattan Finance Director Bernie Hayen, announced the end of last week that “nearly all major retailer, auto dealers, and Manhattan Mall stores remained up compared to the same February period a year ago.” Also, because of these strong retail sales, Hayen continued by stating that the budget is $250,000 ahead of the budget projections. Nearly $924,000 was collected for the February reporting period, with an adjusted rate of nearly $846,000. WICHITA, Kan. – Manhattan High School took top honors at the Class 6A State Wrestling Tournament by capturing the school’s third state title at Hartman Arena on Saturday night. After holding a 36-point lead heading into day two, the Tribe held off a furious charge by Wichita Heights as Manhattan edged out the second place finishers by 13 points.  Manhattan’s score was 165.5, Wichita Heights registered a score of 152.5, while Lawrence was a distant third at 118.5. MANHATTAN, Kan. – A career game from Jordan Henriquez was not enough for Kansas State, as the Wildcats dropped a close game to Iowa State, 65-61. Henriquez finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks. Those high marks helped create the first double- double of his career.
