Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat is announcing an injury accident involving a school bus in Louisille just before noon today (Monday). The school bus and truck accident occurred at the intersection of Buchanan Street and Hickory Street. The accident occurred at 11:58 a.m. Riat indicates the accident is under investigation at this time, One unidentified adult was injured and taken to a local hospital. No other injuries were reported at the time of the accident.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Garrett Gilbert is getting another chance to be the starting quarterback at Texas. Gilbert was announced as the Longhorns’ starter on Monday for Saturday’s season-opener against Rice. Gilbert threw 17 interceptions against just 10 touchdowns last season, but won a four-way battle in training camp to keep his job. Texas went 5-7 in 2010, its first losing season since 1997. The Longhorns have a new offense along with a host of other changes. Case McCoy remains No. 2. McCoy is the younger brother of former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and threw just one pass last season.
CLEVELAND (AP) Bruce Chen overcame a shaky first inning to win his career-high fifth straight start and led the Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 win over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. Chen (10-5) allowed the first four batters of the game to reach base and walked Carlos Santana with the bases loaded to force in Cleveland’s only run. The left-hander, who allowed five hits in 7 1-3 innings, is 4-0 in his last five starts against the Indians. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) State officials have now issued a warning about toxic algae blooms in another area waterway and continued their warning for a federal reservoir in the area. The new warning from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment is for River Pond at Tuttle Creek State Park in Pottawatomie and Riley counties, though it does not apply to Tuttle Creek Lake itself. The ongoing warning is for Milford Lake in Clay, Geary and Dickinson counties. Both have blue-green algae blooms, and KDHE says people should avoid wading, swimming and skiing at both. Susie, a 56-year-old chimpanzee, made headlines last year when she gave birth to a baby named Siri last year at Sunset Zoo in Manhattan. But since then, things for that family have changed. Ella Todd, Marketing Development Officer with the Sunset Zoo, talks about having to send Siri to Oklahoma, to get more nourishment from a younger surrogate mother. The Oklahoma Zoo is hoping to present Siri to the public in the spring. Oklahoma news reports indicate Siri weighed only three and a half pounds when she arrived at the zoo, which was a newborn weight for an eight month old.…
Riley County Commissioners acknowledged concerns over proposed redistricting lines during this (Monday) morning’s news conference. Commission Chair Karen McCulloh talked about criticism involving how contiguous the districts should be. She says they also have to keep state regulations in mind, which requires the Commission not shuffle around who represents what district. McCulloh invited the public to present alternate ideas during an upcoming public hearing. That public hearing on the proposed redistricting options for Riley County Commissioners will be held on September 12th at 6 pm in the commission meeting room. Here’s MCulloh’s complete comments:
Arizona Diamondbacks’ outfielder Justin Upton expected a little home cooking from the fans on a ball hit down the right field line on Saturday night. But, a fan broke up the play, Upton got upset, but turned out it was a Padres fan. The D-Back went on to win the game 3-1.
