The Manhattan Petco is reporting a large monetary theft. On Thursday Regional Loss Prevention Manager Erin Reynolds told the Riley County Police Department that a employee in charge of making deposits to the bank was skimming cash funds.  Reynolds said the losses amounted to around $15,000 and encompass multiple incidents starting from the 1st of May through the 1st of August. RCPD reports that a suspect has been named in the case, but no arrests have been made.

All eyes will be on a revamped defense and a new backfield on offense this season, and fans get their first look at the Cats during the annual K-State Football Kickoff on Saturday night.  The event will begin with an hour of practice before Coach Snyder and selected players address the crowd.  This will be followed an autograph session with players and coaches.  Fans are asked to bring only one item to be autographed. The vast majority of the K-State volleyball team returns for this season, and Wildcat fans can their first look on Saturday night during the annual Purple/White scrimmage.  Lauren Mathewson and Julianne Chisholm both graduated, but the large group of freshmen and sophomores a season ago are now a year older.  K-State coach Suzie Fritz says the Cats are ready to get after it, and excited for their first chance to play in front of the fans for the first time. (AP)   University of Missouri curators meet Friday afternoon in Kansas City as pay-for-play allegations about the school’s new men’s basketball coach continue to swirl.  Former University of Miami booster has said he paid then-Hurricanes recruit DeQuan Jones $10,000 to attend the Florida school with Haith’s approval.  Haith spent seven years as Miami’s coach before Missouri hired him in April.  Haith issued a statement earlier this week saying his interactions with disgraced Miami booster Nevin Shapiro “are not an accurate portrayal of my character,” but otherwise declined comment. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)   The Kansas City Royals have signed outfielder Jeff Francoeur for another two years.   The club announced Thursday that Francoeur had signed a two-year contract extension through 2013.  He’s hitting .277 in his first year with the Royals, with 15 home runs, 66 RBIs and a career-high 19 stolen bases.  The affable veteran has also been a clubhouse leader and mentor for the Royals, who are the youngest team in the major leagues.  He’s also third in the majors with 12 outfield assists.  Francoeur signed a one-year contract with the Royals last Dec. 15.

ARCADIA, Kan. (AP) Gov. Sam Brownback says he’s confident that the arts in Kansas will be funded despite the announcement that the state won’t get federal matching grants because Brownback vetoed state arts funding. The Lawrence Journal-World reports Brownback said Wednesday that private money is being raised for the arts in Kansas, but he says the fundraising will take some time. Brownback also said he wished the National Endowment for the Arts had given Kansas more time and worked with the state. YODER, Kan. (AP) A Yoder man has died after the tractor he was driving was hit from behind by a pickup truck. The Reno County Sheriff’s Department says Eli Borntrager, 67, died Thursday from injuries he suffered when he was thrown from the tractor Wednesday near Yoder. The sheriff’s department says a truck driver who thought the tractor was coming toward him ran into the rear of the tractor.
