Riley County police received a report Tuesday of a Manhattan home that was burglarized earlier this week. 33-year old Greg Peterson of  informed RCPD that two jewelry boxes and a Gibson guitar were taken from his home located at 801 Laramie. The incident occurred on Monday between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Peterson was not at his home during the time of the theft. The back door was also left unsecured during that time. The losses totaled $1,500. RCPD representatives have announced that there are no suspects at this time and that the case is under further investigation.

The case of two dogs that were brutally beaten in Leonardville is still under investigation; however, Riley County police have received a new lead in the case. Detective Ryan Runyan has learned that Heath Romine’s dogs had a history of aggressive behavior. There was an incident that occurred on Memorial Day in which the dogs left their owner’s home and chased calves around on another person’s property. A family pet was killed during the incident. RCPD has contacted several residents from the surrounding area in Leonardville and the belief is that the dog beatings may have been in retaliation to the happenings on Memorial Day. A…

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)   Bruce Chen pitched eight crisp innings, Alex Gordon homered and the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 4-0 on Tuesday night.  Chen (11-7) allowed two singles, struck out eight and walked one. He was 0-2 with a 7.94 ERA in his previous two starts.  Chen yielded a leadoff single to Ben Revere, who stole second.  He was the only Twin to get past first base against the left-hander.  Danny Valencia singled in the fifth for Minnesota’s only other hit off Chen.

Tuttle Creek Lake’s releases have been increased from 1,000 to 2,000 cfs the past day, with Missouri River flows continuing to decrease. Brian McNulty, Operations manager with the Tuttle Creek Lake for the U-S Army Corps of Engineers tells KMAN the two are related. Milford increased its releases from 1,500 to 3,000 cfs in the last day, which should also help with its blue-green algae problem as more water moves through the system. And as for next week, if flows continue to decrease, he anticipates even larger releases.

Fake Patty’s Day has exploded since it’s inception just four years ago, to the point out-of-state revelers now come to Manhattan just for the student-driven event. And, with the 2012 Fake Patty’s already being promoted on social media sites, the City of Manhattan has begun planning for the next event, as well. Many came forward during Tuesday night’s City Commission work session to voice their opinions, ranging from residents to bar owners and the Aggieville Business Association. A source says Texas and Oklahoma officials met over the weekend amid speculation that the Sooners are considering leaving the Big 12.  Texas President Bill Powers and athletic director DeLoss Dodds were among a group of Texas officials who went to Oklahoma on Sunday.  Oklahoma president David Boren also was present.  Oklahoma officials are reportedly considering leaving the Big 12 after Texas A&M’s recent decision to leave the conference with hopes of joining the Southeastern Conference.

(AP)   Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive remains hopeful Texas A&M will join the league by next season and that the conference has “started to look at schedules for 2012-13” for 13 teams.” SEC presidents voted to accept Texas A&M last week, but the invitation was contingent on Texas A&M being free of legal issues regarding its departure from the Big 12. DES MOINES, Iowa (AP)   Iowa State junior quarterback Steele Jantz has been named the Big 12’s offensive player of the week after leading the Cyclones past Iowa.  Jatz threw for 279 yards and four touchdowns in just his second game at Iowa State, leading the Cyclones on three straight touchdown drives in a 44-41 triple-OT win. Missouri linebacker Zaviar Gooden is the league’s defensive player of the week after making nine tackles and blocking a point-after try in Missouri’s 37-30 overtime loss at Arizona State. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)   Chiefs safety Eric Berry has a torn ACL in his left knee and is done for the year.  Berry was hurt in the first quarter of Sunday’s loss to Buffalo during a block by Bills receiver Steve Johnson.  The second-year strong safety made the Pro Bowl last year and was being counted on heavily by the defending AFC West champions, who were hammered 41-7 at home by Buffalo in the opener.  Berry, a former Tennessee star, made 72 tackles and four interceptions last season, returning one of them for a touchdown.  He was the fifth overall…
