Riley County Police have arrested a Manhattan woman on suspicion of forgery. According to Wednesday’s RCPD arrest report, 35-year-old Marijke Torres is additionally charged with unlawfully obtaining a prescription drug and three counts of identify theft. Officers say two women were reported as victims Monday when Torres allegedly used both women’s information to obtain the drugs. Torres was jailed on a $14,000 bond but is no longer in custody. Chandler was tried this year for the third time for the murders of Michael Sisco and Karen Harkness in Topeka on July 7, 2002. This time, she elected to represent herself and excused her defense counsel before opening statements began. City officials are reminding Manhattan residents of the annual Spring Cleanup, happening next week. City crews will be circling neighborhoods between April 7 and April 11, collecting properly bagged and stacked yard waste, tree limbs and branches. Two people were seriously injured in a Sunday crash on I-70 near Junction City. The Kansas Highway Patrol says it happened just before 4:30 pm, about a mile east of the US-77 interchange. An eastbound SUV swerved to the right, striking an eastbound Toyota Prius, causing both vehicles to spin out. THE SUV rolled several times before coming to rest on all fours. Two people in the SUV, from Lincoln, Nebraska, were transported to Stormont Vail-Flint Hills with serious injuries.
