Officers filed a report of a stolen vehicle on February 3, 2025, at approximately 7:46 AM in the 2100 block of Prairie Glen Place. Officers listed a 25-year-old male as the victim when it was reported his 2001 Ford Escape was stolen by an unknown subject. The vehicle was spotted and recovered later that afternoon. The executive director of the Manhattan Area Resettlement Team is resigning amid federal funding freezes affecting refugee assistance. Ana Mendonca said her last day as leader of the nonprofit organization will be Feb. 7. Virginia Rodriguez, the agency’s program manager, will serve as interim executive director until the position can be filled permanently. Mendonca said she will continue to volunteer her time helping refugees resettle. Mendonca told The Mercury she decided to resign after President Donald Trump signed an executive order in January halting new refugee arrivals and suspending grant funding used to offset those arrivals. Clayson Creed Joyce, 22, faces reduced charges after Riley County District Court Judge Jeremy Larchick decreased the initial 12 counts of attempted first-degree murder to three counts during Joyce’s first appearance Friday. Joyce also is charged with two counts of criminal discharge of a firearm, three counts of aggravated battery, seven counts of aggravated child child endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm and criminal damage to property. Beverly Lynette Hall, 48, was arrested on January 31, 2025, after deputies with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office discovered methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in her residence on West 1st Avenue. Deputies initially responded to a suspicious activity call and developed probable cause for illegal drugs. The Drug Enforcement Unit assisted, obtaining and executing a search warrant. Hall was booked into the Dickinson County Detention Facility on drug possession charges. A Manhattan man was arrested on February 1, 2025, following a reported incident of aggravated domestic battery and aggravated intimidation of a witness. Officers responded to the report at approximately 1:58 PM, and later that afternoon, Gage Ellis, 21, of Manhattan, was taken into custody at 3:14 PM on probable cause for the listed offenses. His bond was set at $20,000, and he remained confined at the time of the report. Due to the nature of the crime, authorities have not released further details.
