One of the two men arrested Wednesday for the murder of Kevin Cockrum has been released and no charges will be pursued. According to Riley County Police Officials, the investigation into the beating death of Cockrum, who died from his injuries a week ago today, revealed insufficient evidence to continue to hold Levertis Lee Horne, 20, of 513 North 16th Street #2. The Riley County Commission approved a sales tax program proposal Thursday. New endeavors would include 12 bridges, three major reconstruction projects, and 12 overlay projects to be completed over the next 10 years. If approved, public works director Leon Hobson estimates the projects will cost $20 million. The proposal will be on the ballot in 2012. A Salina man says he wants everyone to know that he’s alive and well and has not been in a plane crash. Fred Leepers says he was wrongly identified as the pilot of an experimental ultralight aircraft that crashed August 6th in Butler County. He says friends and family have been contacting him since then expressing concern. The actual pilot was Miles Frederick Leeper, a 43-year-old Douglass resident. ABILENE, KS (AP) The Keystone oil pipeline is the focus of a panel discussion scheduled for next week in Abilene. The panel will feature Jim Prescott of TransCanada, the company that built the pipeline, which moves oil from Canada through several states, including Kansas. Another proposed section of the pipeline is under federal review. David Daniel, a Texas landowner opposed to the pipeline, will also be on the panel.
