HAYSVILLE, Kan. (AP) The pastor of a small Kansas church that serves cowboys and cowgirls says he’s forgiven the thieves who caused thousands of dollars of damage at the church over the weekend. The thieves destroyed air conditioners at the Prairie Trail Cowboy Church in Haysville, just south of Wichita. They got away with only about 40 dollars worth of aluminum. KWCH reports  church members found the damage as they arrived for services Sunday. Two Manhattan men were charged for their roles in the Wendy’s armed robbery reported Tuesday. Riley County Police say thanks to the immediate calls from Wendy with good descriptions, the dispatchers were able to get information to RCPD quickly. After receiving the information, officers were able to make it to the area before the suspects had fled the scene. The first suspect exited the back door of Wendy’s going Northbound. After the suspect got in the get away vehicle, the officers saw the vehicle leaving. Officers quickly caught up to the vehicle and attempted to get it to stop. As…

Youth was no barrier for Manhattan High grad Steve Andrus, as he nearly qualified for the 2012 London Olympic games over the weekend.  Andrus is a senior-to-be on the Michigan State wrestling team, but is also one of the best young Greco-Roman wrestlers in the country.  In Greco-Roman, only the upper body can be used to wrestle and not the legs.  The former Indian and current Spartan was a wild card at 120 kilograms, and went 3-0 in the challenge bracket. Andrus wrestled 2008 Olympian Dremiel Byers of the US Army in the finals, but was defeated 2-0.  Andrus didn’t qualify for London, but…

(AP)   Denny Hamlin held off hard-charging Martin Truex Jr. down the stretch Sunday to win at Kansas Speedway for the first time.  Truex had dominated most of the race, but Hamlin had gone to the front when his car hooked up under the first sunshine of the afternoon.  Truex mounted a comeback, diving low with a couple laps left, but he couldn’t make the move stick and Hamlin pulled away.   He coaxed his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota the rest of the way for his second win this season.  Truex wound up leading a race-high 173 laps…

While not official yet, Manhattan Mayor Pro Tem Loren Pepperd is set to take over as the city’s mayor at Tuesday night’s city commission re-organization meeting. City manager Ron Fehr tells KMAN the selection of the Mayor is pretty standard, with the Mayor Pro-tem generally elected by the commission to the Mayor position. Fehr further explains the mayor Pro Tem is generally the person who received the most votes in the last election. COLUMBIA, Mo. – Three Missouri pitchers combined to toss a four-hit shutout as the Tigers completed the three-game sweep of Kansas State with a 7-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Taylor Stadium. The Tigers improved to 21-17 on the season and 5-9 in Big 12 play as they recorded their first conference sweep of the season. The Woodard family have been working with Sunset Zoo for about three years to get to this point. On Sunday April 22, 2012, Earth Day, the John Woodard Memorial Gibbons Exhibit Building opened to the public after a dedication ceremony.
