Getting in the trenches, and rolling our sleeves up, were just some of the suggestions at a housing roundtable held at the Manhattan Conference Center Friday morning. A hearing to Determine whether a Manhattan teenager should be prosecuted as a juvenile or adult in a first degree murder case has been moved to February 2nd and 3rd of next year. The hearing for Cole Drake, which had been set for next week,   has been postponed so that the written report documenting the findings or opinion of an evaluation conducted on Drake can be completed. According to Riley County attorney Barry Wilkerson, the evaluation process has taken longer than either, the defense, the state or the court anticipated. Members of the Transportation Security Administration unveiled the long-awaited 9/11 commemorative artifact at Manhattan Regional Airport on Thursday. The monument is is stainless steel circle that displays the American flag with nine stars and 11 stripes with the words ‘We Will Never Forget’ inscribed on it. This project was several years in the making. In addition to the steel circle, the monument also features an eagle grabbing a small piece of steel taken from a beam that once supported the World Trade Center. “Over the space of a couple of months we were able to obtain a court order because the artifact…

The University of Kansas owes former head football coach Turner Gill $6 million for the final three years of his guaranteed contract following his dismissal last month.  Gill isn’t one to rest on his laurels, as he accepted the head coaching position at Liberty.  He was introduced as the Flames’ 8th head coach Thursday.  Liberty was founded by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, and is a Big South Conference school in the FCS.  The Flames went 7-4 this past season, and finished 2nd in the Big South.  Gill replaces Danny Rocco, who left the school after seven seasons and a…

Hardly a household name when he arrived at K-State after two seasons at City College of San Francisco, Nigel Malone certainly made people take notice during his junior year in purple.  Malone was a named third team all-American defensive back by the Associated Press on Wednesday.  He led the Big 12 with seven interceptions, collected 57 tackles, broke up nine passes, and scored one touchdown.  Malone was previously named a Walter Camp second team all-American, and a third team all-American by Phil Steele. KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP)   Charlie Weis is guaranteed $2.5 million annually over the course of his five-year deal with Kansas, along with incentives that could push the total over $3 million. A copy of the contract, which is dated Dec. 9, was obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press.   Weis’ base salary is $230,000, though he is also in line for an additional $2.27 million in “professional services rendered,” which includes educational, promotional and public relations duties. Last February, Weis signed a three-year deal worth $2.495 million to be Florida’s offensive coordinator. He was paid $765,000 in 2011.  The former…

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)   Kyle Orton will start at quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday unless an injured finger on his throwing hand prevents him from playing.  Interim coach Romeo Crennel said Wednesday that he made the change in an effort to jumpstart the offense.  Journeyman quarterback Tyler Palko had led the Chiefs to only two touchdowns in four games since taking over for the injured Matt Cassel.  Crennel said that if Orton is unable to go, fifth-round draft pick Ricky Stanzi will start for Kansas City.  The rookie out of Iowa…
