The Riley County Police Department held a town hall meeting Tuesday evening to inform citizens about their crime reduction plan. RCPD Director Brian Peete spoke to the public about future goals he has for the department… Peete also spoke about his five year plan, the new license-reading cameras that are going to implemented, along with crime statistics from 2023. The event was one of three town halls this week across the county. Peete met with residents in Riley Monday. The final town hall will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Ogden Community Center.

Officers responded to the report of an injury crash in the 300 block of E. Poyntz in Manhattan on January 29, 2024, around 10:33 AM. When officers arrived on scene, they found a 2004 Silver Saturn Ion driven by Erica Arnold, 21, of Wamego crashed with a 2014 black Dodge Journey driven by Robert Bellinder, 61, of St. George. Bellinder was transported to Via Christi for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. Arnold was issued a citation for improper right turn. Riley County commissioners decided Monday to table discussions on how to finance the county’s looming facility upgrades. A space study analysis was conducted in 2012 and projected the costs to be around $25 million. Due to inflation, the commissioners now believe that this number could be between $40-$60 million dollars. During their Monday meeting, the commissioners were presented with three ways to pay for facility upgrades.
