Riley County has certified the results of the recent presidential preference primary. The commission, acting as the Board of County Canvassers on Monday, unanimously approved the provisional ballots and certified the election results. A total of 2,624 Riley County residents (about 7%) took part in the primary, the state’s first since 1992. During the meeting, elections officials read results for each precinct, as well as the totals for each voting method. Wamego Health Center is close to completing a new MRI suite which began construction on September 29. The MRI scanner facility is being funded by the Wamego Hospital Foundation and patrons of the community. While the projected completion date for the scanning suite is April 1, the hospital is engaging in rigorous safety testing before opening to the public. “They have a very strict checklist of items they have to go through to make 100% sure our safety is always paramount,” says administrator Brian Howells. “It will be about four weeks of checking and double checking, and we are going…

Officers filed a report for motor vehicle theft in the 4600 block of Skyway Drive in Manhattan on March 25, 2024, at approximately 5:02 PM. Officers listed Redline Autoplaza as the victim when it was reported 47-year-old Deborah Heiser of Colorado Springs, Colorado purchased a 2012 Chrystler 300 for $21,711 on January 24, 2024, without secured financing. Additionally, Heiser has not made any payments on said vehicle. Attempts to contact Heiser by Redline Autoplaza have been unsuccessful as have attempts to repossess the vehicle. By Tim Weideman, Manhattan Mercury Riley County Commissioners approved a request Monday from Community Corrections to continue using as-needed on-call juvenile intake staff in 2025. The department has already been bringing in an additional person to cover on-call needs on Fridays for Juvenile Intake and Assessment Services (JIAS). That person responds to law enforcement requests for assistance when a juvenile is taken into custody. Officers responded to the report of an injury accident at the intersection of Seth Child Road and Marlatt Avenue in Manhattan on March 22, 2024, at approximately 4:24 PM. When officers arrived on the scene they found a 1996 GMC Sierra driven by Spencer Berry, 22 of Manhattan, was in the ditch having been struck by a 2003 Ford Ecoline E250 driven by Mark Pixley, 63 of Manhattan.
