The Manhattan City Commission will gather Tuesday to examine budget projections for the next three years, which also includes reviewing money given to outside agencies. Funding for one entity in particular may be in jeopardy, according to Mayor Jim Sherow. The Social Services Advisory Board may be in question going forward. The group received $417,200 in 2011 . Mill levy rates, interest rates, along with utility rates are all expected to receive attention at the meeting. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Missouri has taken another step toward leaving the Big 12 Conference and there is interest in the SEC in taking the Tigers. The governing curators at Missouri unanimously gave Chancellor Brady Deaton the authority Friday to move the school out of the Big 12 if he decides that is in the school’s best interest. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff Office is investigating a rural residential burglary that occurred on Thursday, October 20 sometime between 9:30 and 10:30 AM. The residence is located in the 8700 block of Flint Rock Road in St.George. The suspect or suspects gained entry by breaking out the glass on a back door. Some items that were taken include firearms, a Nintendo Wii and several Wii games. The total loss including damage to door is estimated at about $2,700. Riley County firefighters were called to a fire at 19,420 Peach Grove at 6:16 a.m. (Friday). Riley County Asst. Fire Chief Doug Messer tells KMAN firefighters weren’t able to do much to save the structure as it was fully involved in fire and was collapsing when they arrived. The home belonged to Duane and Julia Sump. Duane Sump was a long-time firefighter. Cause of the fire has not yet been determined, although it does not seem to involve a heating device. 19 firefighters from five different stations responded. There were no injuries.

Local governmental groups Thursday seemed to agree on how to word the sales tax question on the August ballot, although work remains on the matter, especially for the city of Manhattan. Manhattan City Commissioner Wynn Butler indicated he sees no alternative but to support the sales tax, with the possibility of easing property taxes.
