WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Wichita police have arrested a 37-year-old man after a fight involving a sword and steak knives at a local hotel. Police say the man threatened kicked in the motel room where a 57-year-old man was staying and threatened him with a sword Monday night. The older man ran to his room’s kitchen and grabbed two steak knives to confront the attacker. Police spokesman Lt. Doug Nolte says the fight spilled into the hotel’s parking lot. COFFEYVILLE, Kan. (AP) A 68-year-old Coffeyville man has died after losing control of an all-terrain vehicle and crashing into an area of dense trees. KOAM reports Howard Sylvester Homer was an inexperienced rider who is believed to have been riding at a high rate of speed Monday evening when he crashed. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says it received the call around 6 p.m. Homer was taken to the Coffeyville hospital, where he later died. NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma has so far spent more than $50,000 on an investigation into major NCAA rules violations by the men’s basketball program. The university on Tuesday released the investigation’s costs to The Associated Press in response to an open records request. Oklahoma listed payments totaling $50,057 to the legal firm of Bond, Schoeneck and King since September 2009 while looking into the program’s second set of major rules violations in five years. In a short meeting Tuesday night, Manhattan’s City Commission approved two items slated on the general agenda unanimously. First up was a plan for a new Traffic Operations facility, which will be located on the east and west sides of 11th street, north of Fort Riley Boulevard and south of El Paso Lane. The facility will house office space, parking, and areas for the storage of vehicles and equipment. A report to the RCPD about a possible sighting of “Baby Lisa”, a missing 11-month- old from the Kansas City area, has proven false. Riley County Police received the tip Tuesday, conducted an investigation, and have confirmed that the child seen was not the missing infant. Despite the false sighting, Riley County Police urge citizens to continue to be vigilant and to report any and all suspiscious behavior they observe.

More information on the death of a Junction City man Monday. Junction City Police Detective Sergeant Trish Giordano says the victim has been identified as Sean Conary, 35, of Junction City. An autopsy has been performed, but toxicology results are still pending and the cause of death has not yet been determined. Conary was found around 11:15 a.m. Monday at 66 Riley Manor by Junction City Police and Fire Department personnel after a report was made of a man not breathing. Conary was transported to Geary Community Hospital, where he pronounced dead a short time later.
Riley County police are releasing a description of a suspect in Friday night’s fatal shooting of a Fort Riley soldier Ogden man. The individual is described as a black male, 5’8″ to 6′ tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds, probably 25 to 35 years of age. He was described as bald with a moustache and beard, and may have been wearing a green jacket at the time of the shooting. The description comes from witnesses in the area. U.S. Army Sgt.
