The Princeton Review’s Best 376 colleges for 2012 named Kansas State as one of the nation’s best institutions for undergraduate education.  In fact K-State ranked 2nd in the nation for campus and community relations, 14th in quality of life and 15th for campus food. The K-State Alumni Association has reported a record breaking 12 percent increase in alumni engagement for the fiscal year.  In fact Kansas State has been 1st among the big 12 in percentages of graduate alumni participation for the past 15 years. Assistant Vice President, and Director of Communications Steve Logback says  that the continued success of the association can be attributed to new initiatives such as outreach to international, and out of state alumni.  However, Logback says the real strength of the organization is the strong ties that lie in the Kansas State family. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)   Casey Kotchman led off the ninth inning with a home run to lift the Tampa Bay Rays to a 2-1 win over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night.   Kotchman drove the first pitch from Blake Wood (5-1) over the center field fence. ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) Tight end Tony Moeaki has been removed from the Kansas City Chiefs’ physically unable to perform list and participated in their morning walkthrough Monday. The second-year player from Iowa ran some routes for the first time since he was placed on the PUP list at the beginning of training camp.  The Chiefs have not said what was wrong with Moeaki, but he spent more than a week watching from the sidelines at Missouri Western State University.  Moeaki caught 47 passes for 556 yards and three touchdowns his rookie season. Noxious weed director Tim Eisenbarth reported more than $25,000 in sales for the month of July, saying that much of the figure is attributed to private sales. Eisenbarth also stated that his department produced 20 bales of cardboard and three bales of chemical jugs. — Pottawatomie County issued 13 building permits for a total of $1.36 million for the month of July. Zoning administrator Gregg Webster is in the process of drawing up a resolution to account for changes made to the county’s land use plan. It was a deadly weekend in Wabaunsee county, with two un-related deaths occurring. Saturday evening the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s office deputies responded to McFarland, with an accident reported in the 200 block of Market Street. 34-year-old Gerad Cole of Wamego had apparently fallen from a trailer which was being pulled by a 2005 dodge pick up. Cole and others were in the process of moving household items from one residence to another at the time. Cole sustained a severe head injury and was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka by life star helicopter where he was later pronounced dead.…

Post Office official Rick Pivovar will give a free public presentation at 1 p.m. at the Manhattan Fire Department Headquarters  located near the intersection of Kimball and Denison.
