The Kansas Board of Regents approved a 5% tuition increase for Kansas State University during their Wednesday meeting. This decision marks the highest rate increase since 2019 at K-State and the five other public universities in Kansas. During last month’s meeting, officials from each university proposed 5 to 7 percent increases for the coming school year. K-State, the University of Kansas, Emporia State University and Pittsburgh State University will all experience the 5% jump. HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) — A Kansas doctor saved his daughter when she became trapped by their overturned raft in a rushing Colorado river, but was unable to save himself. Dustin Harker, 47, a neurologist from Hutchinson, was on a whitewater rafting trip Friday with friends from church and four of his 13 children when the accident happened in the Sunshine Falls area on the Arkansas River. The Manhattan City Commission held their first budget work session Tuesday to discuss the estimated 2024 revenue neutral rate and possible changes to the mill levy. Deputy City Manager Jason Hilgers presented the commission with the city’s year-to-date financials and the impact of property valuation increases on the revenue neutral rate (RNR). Hilgers said overall valuations increased by 9.5%, dropping the RNR below the current 52.15 mill levy. The Riley County Police Department has released more details regarding a Monday motorcycle crash that sent one person to the hospital. Authorities say 21-year-old Parker Pre-Genzer, of Junction City, had been riding northbound on Hwy 13 with a group of motorcycles when he attempted to turn left on his bike, while riding next to 20-year-old Pedro Pedroza, of Wichita. The two collided at the intersection of Tuttle Cove Road. Pre-Genzer was transported to Ascension Via Christi with minor injuries.
