A week into fall camp, K-State coach Chris Klieman says some newcomers are making impacts. Addressing media for the first time since practices began last week, Klieman was asked about the remnants of conference realignment, specifically the impacts on the future non-conference schedule as non-conference contests with Arizona and Colorado are going to come off the books. K-State was scheduled to host Arizona next fall and visit Tucson in 2025 then host Colorado in 2028 after visting Boulder in 2027.

K-State’s pre-season practices continue with 25 days until kickoff but one major piece is being held out for the time being. Coach Chris Klieman says offensive lineman Christian Duffie has been sidelined with an injury. Duffie has started 35 consecutive dating back to the 2020 season, which is the longest current streak on the team. He started all 14 games at right tackle in his junior campaign last fall. For the second time in less than a week, a police report was filed for criminal damage to property at a Manhattan school. The Riley County Police Department says it took a report Monday at Bergman Elementary School after an unknown suspect damaged two fence gate doors and two metal security doors at the school. Damage is estimated at $5,000. Police also noted a break-in at Manhattan High School Aug. 1 and are seeking the public’s help identifying a suspect in that incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

(K-State Athletics) – Kansas State senior Will Howard was one of 35 quarterbacks in the nation to be named to the initial watch list for the 2023 Davey O’Brien Award, the Davey O’Brien Foundation announced Tuesday. Howard is the first Wildcat candidate for the award that goes to the nation’s best quarterback since Jesse Ertz was a preseason candidate in 2017. Manhattan City Commissioners are scheduled for a work session Tuesday night to discuss the city’s five-year strategic plan and 2024 general fund budget. The General Fund is scheduled to increase by more than $5.8 million to $45.2 million in 2024. It includes over $3.3 million for personnel and over $2.5 million for operations. The projected mill levy is 50.470, a decrease of 1.684 from the previous year. The city is forecast to levy $35 million in property taxes in fiscal 2024, based on valuation increases.
