Arraignment was held Friday for a Wamego man charged with possessing child pornography. Scott Hertzig entered a plea agreement in Pottawatomie County District Court for two counts of sexual exploitation of a child. The two counts are alleged to have occurred in April 2021. Judge Jeff Elder presided over the hearing, informing Hertzig of what he is waiving by entering a plea agreement. Sentencing will take place at 2 p.m. April 21st at the Pottawatomie County Justice Center. Hertzig will be required to register as a sex offender. Riley County Police arrested a 44-year-old Manhattan man Friday afternoon in connection to alleged sex crimes reported to have occurred over several years. Joshua Penabaz was being held Friday on $1 million bond for numerous charges of rape, aggravated indecent liberties with a child and aggravated criminal sodomy. RCPD says an investigation is ongoing. FEMA has announced federal disaster assistance has been made available to 53 Kansas counties affected by the Dec. 15 severe storms and straight-line winds. Federal funding is available to the state, eligible local and tribal governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities.
