The Flint Hills Breadbasket is looking to expand their physical presence in Manhattan as food insecurity continues to rise locally. Executive Director Karla Hagemeister notes the need for a larger space is very real after the organization saw more than 3,000 new families helped in 2023, while recognizing the importance of being located near downtown Manhattan. Riley County officers responded to a fatal accident on Deep Creek Road on Tuesday night. According to officers, 33 year old David Collins was killed after his Ford truck left the roadway and hit a ravine just before 8:00 pm in the 800 block of Deep Creek Road. It is unknown at this time if Collins was wearing a seatbeat or was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. Family was notified of the accident.
