TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Letters containing suspicious white powder have been sent to lawmakers and other public officials across Kansas, officials announced Friday. No injuries have been reported, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. It had counted more than 30 letters as of late Friday afternoon. The news release didn’t provide details about the consistency of the white powder. In emails sent to legislators and obtained by The Topeka Capital-Journal, Tom Day, director of Legislative Administrative Services, said the Kansas Highway Patrol had informed his office of the letters, which contain a return address of either Kansas City or Topeka.…

Ryan Larson, 21, of Manhattan was arrested on June 15, 2023, around 4:30 p.m. on his Pottawatomie County District Court warrant for rape and aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Larson was transported to the Pottawatomie County Jail. Officers filed a report for criminal damage to property in the 5500 block of Skyway Dr. in Manhattan on June 16, 2023, around 5:00 a.m. The Manhattan Airport was listed as the victim when it was reported an object, possibly a baseball, was thrown through the front terminal window. The Manhattan Juneteenth Committee kicked off their three-day-long Juneteenth celebrations Thursday with their annual art auction at the Douglas Activity Center. Committee Member Zelia Wiley said Juneteenth serves as a celebration of freedom and as a way to recognize and celebrate the experiences of the African American community. For Committee Member Betti O, Juneteenth represents uniting people and creating togetherness. Betti O said art brings communities together through its ability to speak to everyone, regardless of their background. All artwork auctioned off was created by local artists. RCPD reported that 54 year old Jose Torres was arrested following an accident near the intersection of East Marlatt Ave and Brookepointe Circle in Manhattan in March. Torres was arrested on the charges of Aggravated Battery, Open Container, Failure to stop at an accident, passing with insufficient clearance, and driving with no license. These charges stem from the accident that took place on March 24th. Torres had left the scene of the accident after his westbound 2007 Chevy van crossed the center line of East Marlatt and collided with 60 year old Jesus Maldonado (Mal-Done-ah-doe).
