Officers filed a report for burglary in the 2300 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. in Manhattan on June 9, 2023, around 6:45 a.m. after being called to Wildcat Pawn and Jewelry for the report of their business alarm being activated. After arriving on scene, officers found the business had been broken into and an Aero Precision M4E1 worth approximately $1,100 had been stolen. Around 8:30 a.m. officers were called to the 1400 block of Flint Hills Pl. to investigate a possible stolen car. Two delegates from this year’s American Legion Boys State of Kansas were elected by their peers to represent Kansas Boys State as senators this summer. Soon-to-be seniors Adiel Garcia II, of Olathe and Creytin Sanner, of Junction City, will attend Boys Nation July 21-29 at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. Jasper Kimball, of Andover and Max Mitchell, of Lawrence were selected as alternates. (AP) — The Kansas governor chose a high-ranking U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration official Friday to head the state highway patrol, replacing a retiring superintendent who is facing federal lawsuits over the agency’s policing and allegations that he sexually harassed female employees. Gov. Laura Kelly’s appointment of Erik Smith came on retiring Superintendent and Col. Herman Jones’ last day. Until Smith can take over as superintendent July 7, patrol Lt. Col. Oxavier Ruffin, 22, of Manhattan was arrested on June 8, 2023, around 11:15 a.m. on his two Riley County District Court for probation violation and interference with law enforcement and one Manhattan Municipal Court warrant for motion to revoke diversion for the offense of driving while suspended. The probation violation warrant stems from original charges of two counts each of domestic battery and violation of a protection order. After five years of renovations and installations, the U.S. Cavalry Museum at Fort Riley is finally reopening its doors following a ribbon cutting ceremony next week.
