Officers filed a report for criminal damage to property in the 500 block of Richards Dr. in Manhattan, around 9:00 a.m. on September 8, 2023.  A 54-year-old man reported that an unknown person intentionally damaged his vehicle.  The estimated loss was $600. The annual Wamego Invitational cross country meet Saturday saw the host boys finish fourth in the 4A race while Rock Creek placed 10th as a squad in a race won by Southeast of Saline. The Wamego girls finished seventh on the day, as Christ Prep of Lenexa claimed the crown in that race. The Smoky Valley boys and Norton girls were the 3-2-1A team winners with Riley County’s boys placing eighth, the girls fifth. A dedication presentation was held on Ahearn Memorial Field for the Tracz Family band Hall Friday afternoon. Director of Bands, Dr. Frank Tracz (Trace) says that he is excited for the K-State Marching Band to have their own space. The presentation on Friday included a short performance by the K-State Marching Band and brief speeches from Head Drum Major Audrey Farrell and Dr. Tracz. Tracz also says he is grateful for the support from generous donors, and that the band hall would not have been possible without them. Manhattan City Manager Ron Fehr provided updates to the Riley County Commission about a number of improvements to the city. Road construction is continuing. Fremont from 11th to 12th street is complete and open. The next phase from 12th to Manhattan St will not happen until next year, due to bad soil discovery while widening a water pipe. Fehr says there will also be a new roundabout on K-State’s Campus. Fehr also says the Manhattan City Commission approved a permit for an Oktoberfest in the alley of Manhattan Brewing Company.
