MANHATTAN, Kan. (K-State Athletics) – Eighteen former Kansas State players are on rosters as the 2023 NFL season kicks off Thursday night when the Kansas City Chiefs host the Detroit Lions. The 18 former Wildcats on opening-weekend NFL rosters are the most since they had 19 to open the 2009 season. It wasn’t pretty, but Manhattan High’s football team improved to 2-0 Thursday night in Topeka, blasting Topeka High 55-19. The Indians ran for over 315 yards as a team while holding the Trojans to 22 yards rushing. After having gone unbeaten last season, Manhattan has now won its last 15 games, setting a new mark for top winning streak in school history. The Tribe will host Hays next Friday night.
A Manhattan beverage company was the recent victim of fraud recently. The Riley County Police Department filed a report for theft by deception Wednesday after local business Walker’s Tea reported an unknown supsect fraudulently ordered about $4,150 worth of prouduct and had it shipped to an out-of-state address. Riley County Police are investigating after a 41-year-old man reported this week his car was broken into and multiple items were stolen, including a firearm. Officers filed a report for burglary to motor vehicles in the 2100 block of Praire Lea Place Wednesday afternoon. The victim reported to police that an unknown suspect stole a pistol, a knife and a machete from his vehicle, valued at $675. A 76-year-old woman also reported her vehicle was broken into, but nothing was stolen. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (K-State Athletics) – Officials are suggesting that K-State football fans driving to Manhattan from the south or west who typically use I-70 through Junction City use an alternate route to avoid construction through a 7-mile stretch that resulted in near standstill gameday traffic last week. A pavement replacement project is underway between Exit 295 on the west and mile marker 302 on the east of Junction City. The passing lanes in each direction are currently closed to allow for crossover construction. It is expected in the next week that traffic will be redirected to head-to-head on one side…
The Chiefs’ Travis Kelce was held out of Wednesday’s final workout and listed as questionable for Thursday night’s season opener against Detroit, one day after the All-Pro tight end hyperextended his knee in practice. Kelce was the only player to carry an injury designation for the Super Bowl champions, who will be raising their latest banner before the first game of the NFL season.
