The Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 board of education will consider optional masking at all buildings in the district. Superintendent Dr. Marvin Wade is presenting an updated pandemic response plan to the board during its Feb 16 meeting. The recommendation would remove universal masking mandates in the district and replace it with optional mask wearing. Exceptions include Early Learning sites and in USD 383 transportation vehicles, The meeting packet states the move comes from decreasing metrics, such as cases and hospitalizations. Riley County property valuations will soon be arriving in the mail. The Appraisers Office has mailed the 2022 Change of Value Notices to each of the roughly 26,000 real estate parcels in Riley County. Those CVNs reflect changes in property values due to fluctuations in the local real estate market and/or changes made to individual properties. During Monday’s county commission meeting, Appraiser Analyst Allen Todd says valuations are expected to increase due to decreasing sales ratios. The sales ratio for the county is around 90%, with 83% of sales last year selling for more than what they were valued at. …
SHAWNEE, Kan. — The father of an infant killed in a house fire in suburban Kansas City, Kansas, has been charged with first-degree murder and other crimes in the case. The fire was reported around 1 a.m. Sunday in Shawnee. Firefighters battling the flames found the body of the infant inside home. Television station Fox4 reports that police later arrested 28-year-old Nicholas Adam Ecker. Ecker was charged Monday in Johnson County Court with first-degree murder and aggravated arson.
