Jessica Urbina, 20, of Manhattan, was arrested on January 29, 2025, in the 300 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. Urbina faces charges of possessing and using drug paraphernalia with intent to introduce into the human body, as well as two counts of possession of opiates, opium, narcotics, or certain stimulants. The Manhattan Regional Airport’s nearly $3 million project to build new hangars is complete. The Manhattan City Commission in March approved a contract with Icon Structures to build six bay box hangers and two bay box hangers at the airport using a Federal Aviation Administration grant to cover 90% of the cost, with the Build Kansas Fund providing $282,000 in matching funds. Brewer faces a range of serious charges, including trafficking contraband into a correctional facility, criminal damage to property, theft of property or services, and domestic battery. A single-vehicle accident occurred on Wildcat Creek Road on January 29, 2025, at approximately 5 PM, involving 28-year-old Rontavius Banks of Ogden. Abbott was taken into custody at approximately 10:27 AM in the 2500 block of Farm Bureau Road, based on a Riley County District Court warrant. Fort Riley leaders recently released the 2024 economic impact summary. The report shows that the installation, home of the 1st Infantry Division, had a direct economic impact on the area of $2.047 billion in fiscal year 2024, which runs from Oct. 1, 2023, through Sept. 30, 2024. That number includes payroll, contracts and services, construction, intergovernmental agreements, veteran spending and more. Total payroll for Fort Riley, one of the biggest employers in the region, was $1.312 billion. The fort’s indirect economic impact $4.503 billion, using the Congressional Budget Office’s accepted multiplier of $2.2 for every $1 of direct economic impact.…

Manhattan Parks and Recreation officials last week announced they won’t implement new membership fees to use the three local recreation centers until July 1 after previously setting the start date for Feb. 1.
