Space needs within the Riley County Courthouse remain a top concern for local court officials. 21st Judicial District Chief Judge Grant Bannister spoke Thursday to the commission, encouraging they consider facility upgrades to the courthouse. He continued on saying the courthouse, which was built in 1906, has serious space limitations, which sometimes causes issues with security and trial proceedings… The commission took no action Thursday. On a related note, commissioners unanimously moved to sign a letter requesting the City of Manhattan waive a building permit fee for its Courthouse Plaza East building renovation project.

Samantha Harris, 38, of Manhattan was arrested while in the 1200 Block of Thurston Street in Manhattan on January 31, 2024 around 6:44 PM. Harris was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant for failure to appear. The original charge was for criminal trespass and theft. The Riley County Police Department held a town hall meeting Tuesday evening to inform citizens about their crime reduction plan. RCPD Director Brian Peete spoke to the public about future goals he has for the department… Peete also spoke about his five year plan, the new license-reading cameras that are going to implemented, along with crime statistics from 2023. The event was one of three town halls this week across the county. Peete met with residents in Riley Monday. The final town hall will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Ogden Community Center.
